1979 Schauff BMX Magnum

4 speed moto-cross style BMX.

Velo Schauff Magnum 4 speed bike, with Mag alloy wheels and drum brakes, mudguards etc all as original.
The frame and forks has BY ARCRIUTTI stamped on them, the bike was made in West Germany by Velo Schauff for UK based Tensor Bicycles in Darlington, England.
Bike spec: ITM alloy stem, 2 piece bars with rubber fixed padded crossbar, which has the Velo Schauff impressed on it, 2 piece Thun cranks, 4 speed cassett on rear wheel with a Huret derailleur, and front and rear drum brakes.
Nice bike in the style of a moto-cross.

Man that has got to be a rare bike. Did they have a team or sponsor a Pro?

Re: 1979 Schauff BMX Magnum

Hey,

Never thought I would ever see one of those again! I was bought oneof those when I was 8 or 9 years old and was my first real BMX. However the local BMX track would no let me race as it had gears and a two piece crank.... I took the gears off and used the third gear.... Eventually I snapped the rear wheel and broke the forks, though the bike was of German quality andwas much stronger than a lot of bikes on the market in the day. My one was a black frame with yellow mudguards etc ... looked snazzy ;)

The good old days huh .... Mine was purchased through mail order via a ad in a newspaper a the time and was approx 60 GBP back in around 1980-1981 ...

Take Care, and thanks for the pics dude ...  :P

Stephan,

Scoland UK ...

Re: 1979 Schauff BMX Magnum

wow not many tensor sourced rides still around id imagine

im from darlington uk so you can imagine there were a fair few tensor bikes around here bitd, my era was a little later say 83 onwards and to be fair i think tensor started to get thier stuff from some pretty obscure places then, they weighed a ton and were prone to falling apart

still being a local distributor they have a special place in my heart :) so thanks for posting this beauty

Re: 1979 Schauff BMX Magnum

Beautiful condition and a nice piece of history.  I can't imagine racing and reaching for that shifter though.  Would have been neet to have a 4 speed version of the Huffy z2 shifter on it though.

Hi my name is Falkor and I have a bike problem;  I can only ride one at a time......
