Re: 1991 Bully Bashguard

Thanks guys...

Better pictures are coming soon. Right now the bike has been stored for the winter but I plan on pulling it out soon. I'd like to actually do some work to this bike this year, right now it's ride-able but not very well. I think it needs a complete disassemble and reassemble. I'd like to get some better rims for it, (48 spoke) different handle bars, and a good brake system. I use to ride this bike for endless hours and it would just cruse with ease, now its tough to pedal and uncomfortable to cruse on. I'd like to bring back some of it's former glory.

Re: 1991 Bully Bashguard

Better pics have been posted. :D

This is the condition of this bike after a year in my basement. Like I said in my previous post I'd like to try to get her back. I am bummed about the condition of the sticker/ decals but that's what 22 years of abuse will do to a bike. I wish there was some way I could get a hold of some new ones but that's a pipe dream, There is no way I'd ever get new stickers for a bike that's 22 years old...

When I bought this bike in 1994 other than the Bully frame, fork, sprocket, and seat post it had 48 spoke Peregrine rims, Odyssey Triple Trap pedals, Haro Group 1 goose neck, Haro Knee Saver handle bars, Mushroom grips (with donuts), Odyssey gyro, Dia-Compe Pit Bull brakes, GT freestyle tires, and a Kashmax seat, and GT front and rear pegs.

Re: 1991 Bully Bashguard

So the bike has been pulled out of the basement and is now ready for me to do something with it. But as I sit looking at it I can't figure out where to start. I really want to ride it so I started thinking maybe I should just fix it up enough to ride it for now. Over the years I have lost my stockpile of BMX parts and now I have nothing left but whats on the bike. The rims are crap, Pacific (el-cheapo Wal-Mart bike stuff) and I hate them. The rear brakes are Dia-Compe Bull Dogs, I'll probably keep those. The brake lines are junk. the front brakes are MX (?) came off a unknown bike I got from a scrap guy. The gooseneck is ACS BMX and I don't like it. My brother has the Haro Group 1 gooseneck that came on the bike when I bought it but he's using it for his '96 GT Vertigo. (I gave him that bike) The handle bars are Dave Mira Slim Bars (so I was told) but I don't think they really are. Either way I don't like them. It has some mis-matched dirt tires on it which I also hate. And a Haro Dave Mira padded seat which I also don't like... So really other than the original Bully parts I hate everything else. LOL. Problem is I have NO parts to change them out with.

So what do you think? Should I just run what I got until I get different stuff or should I just strip it and prep it for when I can afford to get replacement stuff?

...but I wanna ride. :/

Re: 1991 Bully Bashguard

if it were me i would make it rideable......seems thats what you want to do.....and while u r riding it start living in the for sale section and post in the wanted section it you want to ge it back to og parts.when you have collected all the parts and have the money to make it what you want then do it.if you take it apart and strip it you will look at it in the condition you dont want it to be in and you will loose interest!Good luck!

Re: 1991 Bully Bashguard

So today I bought these to make it ride-able.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff112/drk420/pics005.jpg

I was looking for tires because the ones on it are aggressive but this bike frame requires a really skinny rear tire and all I could find without going to an actual bike shop was 2.0's and up I need a 1.75 maximum. But my current brake cables are junk (the rear one is actually held together with duct tape) and my rear tire is flat other than that everything else is in non-perfect but working order. If I replace the rear tube and re-do the brake cables it will ride and stop. For now that will do. :)

Re: 1991 Bully Bashguard

THE BULLY LIVES!!!

I took a little time this morning and fixed a few of the odds and end things that had gone to shit over the last few years.

Here's some pics...

This was the condition of my rear brake cable.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff112/drk420/bike005-1.jpg
http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff112/drk420/bike006-1.jpg
http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff112/drk420/bike012.jpg

So I took everything off.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff112/drk420/bike013.jpg

And re-did it nicely.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff112/drk420/bike019.jpg

I went with these Falcon brake levers.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff112/drk420/bike009.jpg

Took off the front brakes.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff112/drk420/bike010.jpg
http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff112/drk420/bike011.jpg

And re-did that one too.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff112/drk420/bike024.jpg

I decided to ditch the no-name fake Haro Slim Bars and go with a pair of '96 GT Vertigo bars.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff112/drk420/bike017-1.jpg
http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff112/drk420/bike018-1.jpg
http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff112/drk420/bike023.jpg

When I was changing the tube in the tire I found this. So I put a tire patch on the inside to prevent it from pinching the tube. The need for a new tire just increased 10 fold.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff112/drk420/bike021.jpg
http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff112/drk420/bike020.jpg

But after all was done the bike was ride-able and that made me very happy! :D:D:D

Because I have ridden the crap out of it since 1994.

I have future plans of a full restoration but I gotta finish my beater bike first.

Re: 1991 Bully Bashguard

I do enjoy this bike VERY much. It is a great bike to ride. I learned most of the tricks I use to be able to do on this bike. (That accounts for most of the scuff marks on it) Even after I restore the bike I will still ride it, maybe not as hard as I have in the past but IMO it would be a shame to put it on a shelf. To me this is a beautiful bike and I want people to see it and appreciate it like I do. I am building another bike to beat on when I feel the need.

Did some work on the rear wheel. Also threw on a new tire and tube.

Re: 1991 Bully Bashguard

Thinking about swapping out my current front rim for this Mongoose HJC one that I have and the wicked aggressive front tire for a less aggressive one.

Yup that's what I want. I knew Immortis was gonna make the decal kits I just didn't know he had them done. Now I need a good price on a powder coat job.
