Pink Floyd fans go here

Im 36 and I can still remember hearing Floyd playing in the car when I was a little kid.

Chills to this day when I hear there music and I am into a lot of stuff.

I remember thinking that they could not be a real band. Too much stuff going on in the background for just a regular band.

They aint no regular band.

There are a lot of stories and cool stuff surrounding this band and I would love to hear yours.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE FLOYD THEN YOU DO NOT BELONG HERE

Lets hear some of your experiences and please no arguing.

This for some is a touchy thing.

Re: Pink Floyd fans go here

My best buddy / future brother inlaw grew up next door to this strange guy that we called Brian with a mohawk and he looked him up after years of not seeing each other.

He was a nerd for sure but thats okay.

Me and my buddy had him over to the house one night and got him baked and fed him pizza. Two pizza's on top of each other. Toppings in the middle. Cant remember what we called it but it was killer.

We put this on........

I looked over at ole boy about 3 minutes or so in and he was grabbing his chest and saying " I can't breathe ". Trippin out! lol

We were like hey dude are you alright?

He chucked Pizza all over the place. lol

I guess that was his first Floyd experience.

Funny stuff.

PS. My buddy helped clean that sht. Not me. tongue

Re: Pink Floyd fans go here

I saw them in Orlando in the summer of 87 on the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour.  It rained like hell and all the rain kept the weed fog close to the stands so I came home with a MASSSSIIIIIIVE contact high (I had never smoked before).  I banged my girl for 9 hours, and at the end of it she still wanted more and was pissed off because she blew me for 45 minutes and Lil' Gaijin wanted nothing to do with it.  She said "What's the matter?  Doesn't that feel good?"  I said "It feels great, but we've been going at it since 11:00 last night (it was 8:45am) and I'm wore out!"

Re: Pink Floyd fans go here

What a topic, i saw them in 93 on the division Bell tour, they were terrible, but up until then, i had 36 albums and specials by the Floyd, all on Black disc. They are some cracking albums....Obscured by clouds, Meddle, Animals, and then the big hits Wall and DSOTM, but if i listen to them today its mainly the Final cut as im a Bigger Roger Waters fan than Gilmour, but if you aint heard this crank it up to 11.

Re: Pink Floyd fans go here

They're pure genius. It's a shame about the rift with Waters, as a whole they did things that boggle the mind musically and lyrically. I've seen every tour they've had since '87, and seen Waters and Gilmour as solo acts (though often playing Floyd songs). I could rant about them for hours, about things ingested and inhaled prior to their shows, about an epiphany had listening to Welcome to the Machine, and so on.

One thing for sure - if you say you're a fan and haven't watched Live from Pompeii, you're not a fan. Go get it, and enjoy that sh**...I still chuckle looking at how stoned Glimour is for most of it.

I hold a love/hate relationship with Waters right now, charging hundreds of dollars per seat for his Wall concert, whereas he's written albums decrying the monetarism of the world today; which is sadly hypocritical. You'd think he'd be the guy insisting on free concerts in Central Park, to bring his arts to the people....***I wonder if it has to do with Sir David now being one of the wealthiest people in Great Britain?

Gilmour, though is one of my musical heroes. I' m a drummer myself, but will never under-appreciate guitarists (and sadly miss the art of the guitar solo in today's music)...Glimour is perhaps my favorite, after Hendrix. The man can make a guitar sing. I saw an interview with him where he conceded that his slow, deliberate melodic style evolved to what it is today because when he started playing in bands, he flat-out couldn't play the guitar and had to go really slow...

Last saw Gilmour at Radio City Music Hall for his On an Island tour in April of '08. Got so blasted there that I left my keys on the floor in Radio City, and had to take a day off of work to go back to Manhattan to find them (I did).

Cool thread!

Re: Pink Floyd fans go here

Big Floyd/Syd/Roger/David fan here.  I've been collecting records since 1971 and Pink Floyd is my primary focus.  Before I started hanging out on the BMX sites I always used to hang on the Roger Waters sites to trade tapes and bootlegs.  I actually used to belong to Roger Waters USENet groups and BBS in the modem days.

As much as I use eBay now it really ruined my record collecting fun.  Within six months of having an eBay account I had everything on my wishlist.  Something that would have taken years before.  Wish You Were Here - Dutch Blue Vinyl...there it was!  Animals - French Pink Vinyl....a couple of weeks later...WAY too easy...

Re: Pink Floyd fans go here

Pink Floyd, where do you start? Actually the band is so unique and amazing I always wondered how they get their first break and what they sounded like playing small venues before stardom.

I remember driving around in high school in 86 with a group of friends who always listened to the Wall and I had older siblings so I listened to Dark Side of the Moon. So many great songs between those two albums.
I remember listening to One of these days while baked and feeling the weirdest feeling like fluid just washed over my brain or maybe worms lol

Then there was the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour and I saw them in Cleveland Stadium; my brother paid the usher $10 to let us onto the field. It rained during intermission and we joined a few people who had a plastic sheet for covering; the girlfriend of one guy asked if anybody had any herb and we all wished we did and then on cue the boyfriend pulls some out.

I also saw them in Indianapolis later on the same tour and apparently some one from the upper level tried to fly and landed not too far from my seats. yikes

I have to see them again

Re: Pink Floyd fans go here

Has anybody played Dark Side of the Moon along with The Wizzard of Oz?

I did and its pretty cool.

Its been awhile but I think you have to start the CD after the second roar of the MGN lion and it goes with the movie.

Re: Pink Floyd fans go here

It's the third roar and you'll get slightly results if you start at the beginning or the end of the roar.   I've got a VHS tape where we recorded it using the DVD video and CD audio onto the tape.   That way you can pause, stop, watch certain parts or whatever.

It's definitely cool.  It helps to print out and preview the "synchronicities" because some are very subtle.  You can search "Dark Side of Oz" or "Dark Side of the Rainbow" and get lists.
