Re: welding

keep it. it will make you more money than you could sell it for. it will also weld alloy. so handy for a lot more bike jobs. 125 amps should weld 5mm steel or 3 to 4 mm alloy. take her out buy her dinner she,s your new best friend.

Re: welding

thats a nice starter welder  You would get a lot better results in appearance and control if you get a gas kit for it, assuming it acepts gas.  Right now it looks like it set up for flux core wire.   Thats about a $350 welder last i looked.  Home Depot carries those, or at least use to.  I bet that would do 3/16 reliably and 1/4 if you chamfer the edges.

nofeet1hand - whats alloy? aluminum?

Re: welding

thats what I thought.  I am pretty sure you have to run Argon gas to weld aluminum, and of coarse aluminum wire.  I don't think a 110v welder will get hot enough for aluminum.

it will its not the voltage its the amps that count. 125 is enough. but yes you will need argon gas.

Re: welding

$100 is good price for a hobby welder thats upgradeable. When your ready to jump to solid wire and gas it will make a huge difference.
