Kenda vs. Cheng Shin?

Anyone have a preference regarding quality?

How about authenticity for 1984?

Thanks for looking and more for answering...

Re: Kenda vs. Cheng Shin?

Thank you!  And that is for both quality and authenticity...one...the other?

Re: Kenda vs. Cheng Shin?

Cheng Shin... One of the best things about them is they are still available from almost any LBS. If they don't have them, they can order them for you.

You can also order them online from tons of places just like this: http://www.niagaracycle.com/index.php?m … rers_id=91

So cool to be able to purchase the exact same tires brand new that I loved as a kid, some 30 years later. One of the best and most pain free aspects of collecting and rebuilding bikes for me.

Cheng Shin Model # C-183.

Re: Kenda vs. Cheng Shin?

Correction... The link I posted was for a slightly different version than the ones I actually buy.

Obviously, it's your own choice but, I prefer the C-183(A) versions, as they were what we used as kids in the 70's.

Here's a link for the C-183(A) versions: http://www.tireexpress.com/prod.cfm/cid/9001/pid/5772

Cheng Shin again.  Yes they are era correct and also a better tire.  Mitsuboshi actually contracted Cheng Shin to make real Comp 3s for a while in the 80s.

Re: Kenda vs. Cheng Shin?

Sorry, I think my last post was for Motorcycle tires! sad

Anyhow, the ones I'm talking about (the ones in my pics) are Cheng Shin C 183 but slightly different than what I could find online tonight.

Oddly, I couldn't locate them on the Cheng Shin website... Now I'm worried they may have changed them after all these years or maybe discontinued them... ???? sad Damn, I sure hope not.

Re: Kenda vs. Cheng Shin?

Thanks guys.  I actually bought both CST & Duro Hwa Fong (I have two bikes).  I'm going to put them to the test.  I have to say...just on appearance....Duro actually looks better (no color bleed on side wall).  Either way, in 3 months my boy will wear them both out and I'll have to get new ones anyhow.

Nice Mongoose's by the way....before my time...but can sure appreciate the look.

So what was the outcome of this experiment? Would love to know smile

I have 2 sets of CST's. They are identical and I bought them at the same time about a year ago. I noticed today that some of the tires' sidewalls have totally changed color. Anyone experienced this?

I have that problem too spintech. I have my bikes hanging in my garage. The rear tires ended up getting discolored. I think its from the heat
