1982 GT Pro

Same bike I had BITD but with parts I couldn't afford back then!

I had an 81 GT Pro back in the day that I used to race and spend my life on. It got stolen and replaced with a VW... Fast forward 25 years and I find a dumped mongoose with a bent frame that triggers a few memories. I key "BMX" into e-bay and before I know it I am the proud owner of a set of BMXA magazines that I used to own from 1981. I then find myself explaining to my wife why I want a BMX bike for my 40th birthday! Over 18 months later, here is the outcome; my first build! I take it out when I can, I love every minute of it, and it feels like I never left...
Story update: I'm turning 42 soon and just got back into vintage BMX racing!  I've got myself an 81 Team Quicksilver and so far so good.....

Re: 1982 GT Pro

Thanks for the positive comments guys, I'm happy that you appreciate my bike.

I'd love to get a set of the old profile box style cranks and a redline brute stem to finish it off but the money required might spell the end of my marriage...ouch...

This is a very addictive site and hobby, there are so many nice bikes out there!

Re: 1982 GT Pro

Brads right, it's and 82 Pro!
Serial inside of right dropout: 112142 4

It took me a long time to get the HARO "1" and the whole time I was wishing it was an 82 because "2"'s were easier to get...#$%^&*!

New photos to come, Doh!

It gives me an excuse to keep tinkering with it.....

Hi Matt, I'll check the colour and get back to you.
I've got myself some 2nd Gen profile cranks that I'll be fitting this weekend and I'll redo my pics.
Thanks for the positive comments,
Cheers,
Dave

Re: 1982 GT Pro

Hey Matt, I'm trying to find my paint pot to get the colour. It's a 2 pack.
Your build sounds very sweet! Get the pics up!
I've also got a 95 model GT daily rider and an 81 GT Pro frame in chrome that I'd like to build.
I hope that I don't get to 9 bikes, because I don't have the space.
This is very addictive once you get started.....

Re: 1982 GT Pro

Hey Matt, I'm looking to get a profile crank tool to mount the cranks and I want to polish the bearings etc. before fitting, so hopefully I can get some photos up next week.
Nothing wrong with the 401's!  Your collection is awesome by the way....
