1982 Cook Bros. Racing

This is my latest edition to my Cook Bros collection. 1982 Cook Bros frame with uni-clamp, (stem/fork combo). I did the photos myself in my homemade studio.(the two in the center) Special thanks to Steve @ Bullseye for re-annodizing a few parts, and a big shout out to Sam & the crew @ West Bank Cyclery in New Orleans for building the wheels and all their help!, Claude

Damn, Claude, those wheels came out sweet!!!!! cool

Where did you take the pics at?

Some people need to get down off of their crosses, use the wood to build a bridge and GET OVER IT!!!!
I don't build bikes. I just assemble them.

Re: 1982 Cook Bros. Racing

Awesome bike and great pictures too.
Do tell about how you took the shots..
Looks like some chrome valve stem covers and blue valve caps would complete it!

Re: 1982 Cook Bros. Racing

thanks guys!!,,,nope I didnt "break the glass" on my cook bros kit,,,this bike was assembled from some nice parts I had in my collection,,,,,as far as the pics, believe it or not I took them in my den, with a digital camera (with tripod),,,,I bought the backdrop material at the fabric store,($25 for 8yds) and basically tacked it to the wall.....the cool part about the digital camera is you can take a zillion shots and just erase all but the nicest ones,,,I probably took 350 pics to end up with these final four......when you download the shots you can play aroung with the brightness, contrast, etc, which not only makes the pics nicer, it actually diminishes any imperfections in the backdrop.......I did all this because the photo studio wanted $500 for an hour session,,and I figured why not give it a shot on my own!!......what section would be appropriate to start a thread on this particular topic, if it hasnt been done already?, claude

Re: 1982 Cook Bros. Racing

Claude, another stunning CB.  Did you re-chrome the bike or was it in that condition?  It looks brand new.

I have LOTS of bikes that need pics, and if I can get them 1/2 as good as yours!! WOW.
Is that really all the lights you sued? great job!
What is the fabric? just white?

Re: 1982 Cook Bros. Racing

Thanks guys!

RX, thats original chrome...

I actually ended up using my ceiling den light,,,,I seem to remember turning off the light on the pole throughout the shoot(it created too many shadows on one side, maybe using one on each side would work),,,,also,, pics came out way better with tripod and NO flash.....the flash pics I took were all crappy,,,no clarity,,,,as far as the material, it has a vinyl on one side, and a cottony/flat finish on the other side, I used the cottony side......when you go to the fabric store just look around,,,I was just guessing the white would work out and be neutral, but I bet you a similar very light gray or silver would be really nice too....if anyone want a small sample peice of the material I used, shoot me your address via pm and I will mail it to you,,,..claude

Cook was an early Southern California innovation, it wasn't even common in the middle part of america until the later years.
There is an old pro on these sites by the name of The Red Baron (he's a hall of famer, too)
he loves to tell stories of the old days and cook bros.

Re: 1982 Cook Bros. Racing

Compliments that is an absolute masterpiece, i don't want to talk money when referring to a work of art like that but I'm curious as to how much such a bike is worth, any idea?

Re: 1982 Cook Bros. Racing

Hey,

we had such a bike in our childhood. Unfurtunately it has been given away by our parents... sad
Now we are looking for someone who 1. has this bike and 2. sells this bike.

We would be very glad about your answer if knew somebody who can help us.
