Re: How old were you?

I was 14 when I finally got a real BMX bike, I thrashed on a huffy for a while, but you can only do so much on one of those lol. Anyway I had a 1987 Diamondback Viper, I loved that bike, I attempted alot of stupid tricks on it, most failed, but the only thing I ever messed up was blowing tire tubes lol. I am still trying to locate that bike to this day, I guess its a frame only now somewhere. I just want to hang it on my shop wall as a memorial. Those were the days....

Aww... the Huffy's count too! I knew some guys that were great riders / Jumpers that had Huffy's not everyone could talk Mom and Dad into something nicer! I had 1 Huffy along the way I also Had a Columbia for a bit... both had better components put on them... but I moved through them quickly and got a Sekai that was pretty nice and kept upgrading from there

Sweet - I think some are just meant to be on two wheels real young! I couldn't get my son to take the training wheels off until this summer at age 5 - He is getting more confident now but still not a crazy one like was big_smile probably a good thing

Re: How old were you?

Ha Ha Freedo - I only had the one Schwinn Banana seater... My grandparents had some of the 70's Schwinn Sting Fastbacks at their house though - My bro and I would wheelie those all day long when we went over there... it was alot easier than riding wheelies on my uncles Motomag Mongooses lol!

Re: How old were you?

When I was a kid in the late 70s I had a bike from Western Auto (a hardware-ish type store in Ohio).  Banana seat, Knobby back tire.  When I was 15 I bought a Schwinn Predator (82 model?)  All chrome, no stickers.  Vector one piece bars, purple GT laid back seat post, purple break line, red rims, one piece crank, "bear trap" pedals, purple pads, and of course thick purple "donuts" on the grips.  Raced for several years in Ohio and Michigan.  Financed myself mowing lawns and bagging groceries.  Hated repacking bearings, but got good at it.  sold it in 1987 (I think, or 1988) when I joined the army.  Wish I had the bike, but parents couldn't have kept it.

Re: How old were you?

My first bike was a John Deere banana seat bike ( I still have it ) I later built a BMX out of a Stingray and rode it until I was 14 when I bought my Mongoose frame with my own money.

Heres my Goose, http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/mongoose/16513

My Schwinn, photos taken around 78, Stingray frame, gold stem, grab on's, Red-Line bars and Comp II tires

I'm looking for a clean 1975 Mongoose (long) frame, and a nice original finish Mongoose Two/Four

Re: How old were you?

I have always hated this picture because I was wiping out (foot slipped off the pedal)
but it is the only pic I can find of my Sekai... I loved that bike - gleaming blue ano every where and really nice components like Tuf Neck Stem and Kashimax Seat KKT Pedals Tange TRX Forks - (everyone wanted those forks in my hood) etc.. etc..
Admit it you rocked shorts like this with Tube Socks! lol
