Re: 1985 Mongoose Expert

This was the first 'real' bike I ever owned.  I was riding my Ross around up to that point when the chain broke while I was out.  I was sick of stupid issues with my POS bike and had recently seen the Rockville BMX team perform locally.  Convinced my mom to take me to a bike shop and front me the money for a bike.  Ended up getting the Expert in grey.

I'm not sure I had it more than a year.  Maybe less.  But, I turned it into more of a freestyle bike.  Added a gyro to it (1986), that was fun.  Pegs.  A GT mallet stem.  Swapped the brakes on the front.

Paid my mom back and spent most of my paychecks on upgrades as I could afford them.

Late 1986 it was stolen.  I was heartbroken.

About a month later, Christmas rolled around, and my parents hooked me up with a Haro Sport.

Still, I consider the Mongoose Expert my first serious bike.  It was a fun ride.

Re: 1985 Mongoose Expert

That’s awesome. I have a similar story which I posted in the new member section. Sucks yours got stolen. That was common back then. My cousin lost a redline that was eventually found, a stripped frame. (We engraved our bikes)
