2003 Huffy Primus
2003 Huffy Primus
The BEST BMX race bike that Huffy ever put out!
In the late 90's to early 2000's, as bike shop brands (Mongoose, Powerlite, Schwinn, to name a few) started to be sold at "Big Box" type stores such as Wal-Mart, Huffy decided to try out a bike-shop only line of high-end BMX bikes. The Primus was the top of the line model that retailed for $1000 and came stock with Profile cranks and Profile cassette hubs. It was indeed a sweet bike! BUT.... customers in general really did not accept that Huffy was a legit high end brand name, and the company withdrew from the bike shop market by 2005. I set up my Primus with Skyway Graphite Tuff Wheels, a Profile XXL stem, Answer race bars, and a laid back post that makes this ride feel BIG! With it's 21.75 top tube, this bike is great for 6 foot tall riders!

Re: 2003 Huffy Primus
Nice bike for a Huffy! Love the wheels! I'd still rather spend $500 on an Eastern or S&M rather than a grand on a Huffy but it's a sweet bike anyway. What's the weight on it?

Re: 2003 Huffy Primus
Killer bike Ed! Yes when a bike company sells a good quality line of bikes in bike shops and a low-end line in department stores its the equivelant of an actor and career suicide. The company loses serious street credit at the track and everywhere. Well I guess big-box profits are worth more...

HUFFY??? Talk about stepping up to the plate and dishing it out...incredible bike who cares what the decal reads. To bad they blew it by producing basement bargain bikes for the last 15 gabillion years.

Color me impressed! Never thought they had it in 'em.
When I bunnyhop I hear a creak and I don't know if it's my bike or my joints. Oh well.

Re: 2003 Huffy Primus
Super Sweet Huffy that's for sure. I had no idea they had gotten into the high end market for a bit. Very nice looking bike that I'd be happy to have. I'll bet that thing does ride sweet with that 21.75 TT. I'm about 6'3" so I tend to love the longer 20s. Black tuffs look sweet.

Re: 2003 Huffy Primus
Totally Awesome Huffy, I believe it would even look better without the padset. Either way it rocks!
