Re: Need some help identifying this 24-inch that I just bought

Pennies on the dollar.  We need to start a score of the year candidate thread.  It's only March. If anything beats it....it's going to be a heck of a year.

Hutch Fun Facts: All main line Hutch's with digits only S/N (no letters or baseballs) on the rear drop outs were US made and had their dropouts stamped between late '83 and '86.  Obviously the frame manufacture would occur slightly after that, even if they just threw 'em in a bucket randomly.  There is an obvious date code in that the first 2 digits seem to be the month and the 3rd digit is pretty obviously the last digit of the year running from '83-'86.

Me too. This is the best score I can think of in a long time. Just wow!

Everyone rushing to post their CL ad now....

“ Serious collector looking for SST hubs from your shed.  Will pay up to $100 depending on condition...”

Not here. Doug and another guy have been plastering CL ads within 150 mile radius for a long time.

Re: Need some help identifying this 24-inch that I just bought

Man, What a score! SST = Scura Speed & Technology. Brian Scura was a GT Factory rider in 1986. He designed the Odyssey Gyro. Which is why the Gyro was only available on GT bikes when they first came into production. He also designed the SST Oryg cable detanglers, and the super awesome rear hub that Woody Itson used on his Hutch Trickstar. Brian Scura's designs where way ahead of there time. cool

Re: Need some help identifying this 24-inch that I just bought

This is a fun thread.  I keep dreaming about the situation.

"Here's a cool set of hubs I have....."

"oh, you have any other BMX laying around"

"Well yes.....I have a second set of those cool hubs somewhere back here"

Face straightens.

Re: Need some help identifying this 24-inch that I just bought

That is the best score anyone has ever got in my opinion, right up there with Roberts 3 bar Cook score cool
I take that back after seeing what you paid but right up there with the best.Guy must have a connection to PeddlePower bike shop as that was the only shop i saw selling SST hubs and they were 750 a set in the early 80's.Awesome stuff you found.Congrats.
Mods should move this to Catchall score thread.
