The grey plastic on the seat post tube is 1” I.D. PVC that was cut in half and will be clamped to the tube with tie wraps. It is there so the shock bracket won’t rub metal to metal with the seat tube.

The dropouts were severely gouged both inside and out, they were welded up and ground down. I still need some light sanding to get them finished.

Re: Mono-Shock Mongoose Build:

Sick build!!

That shock looks like it has more stroke than you are building the frame for?  In other words, the chain stay posts is gonna slam the seat post tube when you cycle the suspension before the shock gets fully compressed on a hard landing.  It just looks like the frame is designed to have 3" of travel and the shock has 5" ish.  You may never try to bottom it out but I would giver the beans to test it out.tongue

Just from my crude calculations, there should be about 1 1/2” of travel. Yes the shock has way more travel than needed, but I can always install a rubber bump stop on the shock shaft or simply install a stiffer spring to keep things from bottoming out.

Re: Mono-Shock Mongoose Build:

Man, the yellow spring with the yellow mags looks sick!  Can you imagine being the kid in the neighborhood in 1980 sporting this rig!  You would have been king of the town, lol.  So cool.

The big shock didn’t work out because I couldn’t find a heavy enough spring. This Mongoose mountain bike spring is an 800 pound spring and it worked perfectly. It rides pretty awesome!!

Re: Mono-Shock Mongoose Build:

I installed my front shock forks. They use stem clamps so I don’t need a stem. I also threw on a set of Motomags that needed a home. I am on the fence about painting it. I am going to ride it bare metal for a while in case I need to change anything. I have an Nos Troxell bread loaf seat coming that I will install as well as an Nos Ashtabula black oxide crank. I am going to try to find the correct monoshock spring for it as well. It rides pretty nice.https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/207817/6ee85430-e937-4c31-bb94-99c45e542e5a6014cc2ca9.jpeg
