Mono-Shock Mongoose Build:

What do you do with a beat on, banged up old Goose with chewed dropouts, dings, chain rub and needs the seat tube replaced? You build a mono-shock Goose of course!!https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/207817/7042292f-fd5e-4cba-b2c3-a7be784fd5295ffe441d9c.jpeg

Re: Mono-Shock Mongoose Build:

The shock is a 3 way adjusable Carrera off one of my Legends cars.  The spring is a 120 lbs per inch spring that should work. I machined some bushings to step the 1/2” bolt down to 3/8”.https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/207817/7a90810a-c56f-474e-a4a9-e0587f167bf75ffe446e49.jpeg

The gussets were drilled for a 3/8” bolt.

Re: Mono-Shock Mongoose Build:

The private  messages on Facebook sound like a bunch of little girls crying over how I ruined such a rare bike. To be clear, I offered this frame to numerous people. Once I told them all the repairs that were needed, along with no serial number everyone passed on it.

The seat post tube was severely rusted near the connection with the bottom  bracket from years of water getting in. Here is what the inside of the tube looked like once I cut it out:

Re: Mono-Shock Mongoose Build:

I think it`s awesome you have the skills to do something like this, besides it`s your bike you do what you want with it, who cares about the cry babies, There`s always someone somewhere with nothing good to say.

Re: Mono-Shock Mongoose Build:

I wonder if you should try and line up the mounting tabs with the bottom bracket to axle line to prevent chain stretch/sag.
i may be wrong.
or are you gonna use a tensioner with this.
Awesome project!smile

The new 1” O.D. tube that will brace the matchbox to the seat stay will have a sliding bracket that the shock attaches to. The sliding bracket is a piece of 1.250 x.120” round tube with a slit and a 3/8” pinch bolt. The shock bracket will weld to this piece so that the leverage can be changed on the shock.
