1985 Redline RL-20II

Early RL-20 II without chrome rear and breakcable mount on the toptube.

Extreme rare Frame without the chrome rear. Same model used from R.L. Osborn in Paris Bercy, but with the new Sticker with the triangle. 100 % original. 1984 -´85. I know a second of this frame here in munich, germany with SN: RD 06722. Everbody has a SN near to this with same framespecs? When was the design changed to brake cable mount and chrome rear. SN: Please!!!!

Dude!  Was that your's originally?  That is the rarest of the rare.  I just obtained one in December.  1984 built RL-20II sans chrome.  One of the first 250.  You say you know of another?  That's 4 total that have reared their heads.

Re: 1985 Redline RL-20II

Have to agree that's one set of rare frame & forks you have there.

Are you going to build it up but then ok it's simply beautiful just to hang it on the wall of the lounge and stare at it all day

Re: 1985 Redline RL-20II

Nice frames guys.  I used to have a Red/chrome one of these, I believe it was an '86-'87, it had different rear dropouts, like triangles w/ 3 circles cut out of them, damn I want that bike back.

Re: 1985 Redline RL-20II

If it had cutouts in the dropouts then it wasn't a Redline.  Sounds like possibly a General.

Ok, I see what you might have thought now Paul, the cutouts were on the standing section attached to the dropout, not the dropout itself.

Re: 1985 Redline RL-20II

@RL Pauli
Yes a second one from these sweets is here in munich.
The F&F Sets are absolutly original.
The Forkstander from my friend´s f&f set are different.
Not the one piece knurled screw in pegs.
They look like a hollow Tube with one side flat and would be screw in with an allenkey.
I would make a pic and post it.
Excuse but my english is not the best.

@caleb_k21
Have yours ID the RD or RE?

@shivadread

I think i will build it up.
Have some used and new parts todo this.

Re: 1985 Redline RL-20II

Mine is RD 06817.
http://members.cox.net/jenjosiah/bikes/rl1.jpg
Hmmm caleb.  Your's is a mystery.  RD is a 1984 build date.
A guy named Chris is a bike shop owner in Milwaukee.  I think he mentioned to me that he knew you from coming in his shop and asking questions a few times.  He has a friend with another all white 20-II.  He knows all about redline serial number information and about these early 20II's in particular.  I would bring all this serial number information and ask him about it.
Do you know who I'm talking about or am I confused.

Re: 1985 Redline RL-20II

One scenario I can think of is that the bikes were mass produced... then the first 250 were randomly taken off the rack without regard to serial number sequence... or maybe Redline serial numbers are not sequential?

@caleb_k21
@RL Paulie

It´s a zero. Was a bad light where i make the pic.
I think the frame from late ´84.
RL Osborne was in Paris, Bercy with Eddie Fiola in 1984.
He has the new Frame with the gray, black, red Prostyler Sticker.
The middle reinforce tube between the twin tops for stiffness and the breakcable holder was not welded.
So it was a prototype in Paris.

Re: 1985 Redline RL-20II

I think what DIDI is saying is that the prototype RL-20II first ridden by RL Osborn did not have a brace in between the top tubes.
...and notice the forklifter race bars in the first pic.  Pre-freestyle forklifters.

@caleb_k21

Mine has the brace welded in between the Top Tubes.
I have the chrome forklifter freesteyle Bar.

@RL Paulie
The Pics aro so cool. Can you send me a better pic´s of these?
Everybody knows where the Prototype frams are?
And look the forkstanders. They are so nice. Two pieces on each side.
One allen screw and one alu tube.
Then changed to the one piece knurled forkstands.

I got those pictures from a guy on vintagebmx.com
