1982 Hutch XL-24

Black & Chrome

Built a few years ago and ridden in the springs and summers, this bike rides and handles like a fine sports car. Frame and forks were repainted by previous owner to a flawless finish. Built with original Powerlite cruise bars, NOS Pro Neck stem, Hutch 2n1 headlock and also an original Tange headset. Wheels are original from mid 80s with Revcore sealed hubs laced to Araya 7x 24 x 1.75 chrome rims.  Moving along, a nice Bullseye bottom bracket, Sugino CT cranks measuring 175mm and a set of good Suntour XC-II, first generation. Running towards the rear, I grouped the Sugino 44T chainring and Shimano chromed 17T freewheel with an IZUMi chromed chain. I was lucky when putting the bike together; got perfect chain alignment on the very first try! Last parts consists of a NOS Dia-Compe MX-1000 brake caliper and a chrome 1983 Tech-III lever. Cable is also original Dia-Compe stamped 1982 and pads are Kool Stops from 1980s-not re-issue.  Last but not least, Kuwahara seat post and Pro-Max seat, also 1980s original. Seat is made by same company as Elinas. The only repop are the tires, which are a fine replacement not only to show, but to ride as well.

Outstanding build - very much a period correct build.  And about the only Hutch I would be willing to own.

Old-Mid-New School it's ALL COOL... Racing- 80's, idle-90's, now just a Cruzin' olde dude on a sweet ride.

Re: 1982 Hutch XL-24

Thank you. Growing up I never intended to own a cruiser, much less a Hutch. Believe it or not, I didn’t find them attractive and somewhat uncomfortable. Now that I am older and the proper size, my opinion has changed, specially after riding it. I will soon post the other two projects I have been working along additional pictures of this bike. Good luck with the JMC: they are hard to find and expensive.
