1982 California Custom 24
1982 California Custom 24
Rare (25 or so made)
So I rode bmx as a kid at an afterschool program called ”kids in motion” run by troy who had troys bike shop in Oakland in college ave. He sold only bmx at the shop which was down the street from hank n frank.
We had a 20 inch bike called the California custom. It was the lightest bike I think I’ve ever picked up. We would race to the bike room to be the first one to be able to ride the custom. On race days who ever was in form on race day got to race on the custom. It was some of my fondest memories riding that bike and the many others that troy had. I’m truly grateful of my experience.
Fast forward 25 years later and I tracked down a California custom thanks to cruzeraddict here on the museum. He told me that he was able to buy a bunch of nos frames, forks, decals and frame bits. I was lucky enough to buy the last one he had left. These were made by a welder in Santa Ana. You can probably dig up some more info.
I put it together similar to how the 20 inch was back in the day. Boss bars, L&S boss cranks, some VG components as we had on all the NorCal bikes back then. Enjoy!

Really dig the story behind this, and your cruiser looks Boss.
Feeling Bossy. Now how about a beat national pro or whitebear cruiser or panda 26 pro-am raider for a new restore project.
