1986 Norco Spitfire

My tribute to all things 80's Freestyle

I picked up this Norco frame from a local friend years ago, and always had the build in the back of my mind's eye. Just had to get all the pieces together. Four years later, here we are. Not done... I'd like to add a Dyno D2 brake guard, but done enough to submit. This one has taken a long, long time to come together. Took my time, did it right. I might never build another 80's freestyler, and if I don't, I know I did it justice. I wanted to throw as many 80's FS gimmicks at this one as I could, without it looking like a cartoon. That was the plan from the get-go, and like how it has turned out. Hope you like it too.

Frame: 1985-86 Norco Spitfire (Anlun-made. Partial Serial number ******1784 -- stamp was crooked and faint, can't read the first digits, and powdercoat doesn't help.) Fork: Spinner (yes, it has a 5" HT, so I've had to use spacers. But I'm tall, and I didn't want to chop the steerer tube. Coupled with the 7" rise Schwinn bars, it's a great height.) Stem: Norco Fakelifter Bars: c. 1987 Schwinn Yo! / Predator bars, 7" rise Headset: Tioga Beartrap IIGrips: New A'me Waffle grip, with pink Jive Nuts.Wheels: Hutch OGK mags. (These took years to clean. The rear mag had been spray-painted red.) Tires: Kenda K55, bubble-gum pinkBrakes: Shimano Tourney, with Dia-Compe adjustersBrake Pads: SkywayBrake Levers: Dia-Compe 128Crank: Redline 401 Flight, 175mm (survivor)Bottom Bracket: Redline FlightPedals: Victor VP888Chainwheel: Redline Flight, 40tSeatpost: AlpsSeatpost Clamp: Tioga, quick-releaseSeat: Viscount Detangler: ColumbiaChain: KMCPegs: rear Tioga framestanders, front Spinner, with grip tapeNumber Plate: Dyno DynosaurCustom decals: I had my decal guy recreate the awesome vintage Norco Freestyler 'Signature Series' decal set, in pink / magenta, except spelling out 'Anlun' instead of Norco, to honour the maker. Also added a bunch of period decals to the numberplate. Pink Dyno dice valve caps and OG 'Tab' soda pad to finish it off.
