Just your standard score

By far my most frustrating pick up-this bike popped up on cl and I emailed the guy(3x) my phone number to text or call- I was interested(no price).I got no reply, happened to check my emails over a week later, and saw he had emailed me back.Said I could come and see it any time-emailing him back and forth sporadically trying to get a phone number to text or call. Finally after days,I set up to see it today and set a nice price on it.He told me he would take a new school in trade also-so I told him I had a Sunday model c he could check out.Told him I would text him in the morning,to let him know what time I was coming. When I did, he told me he had a more substantial cash offer overnight.I told him I would come take a look at it anyway since I already had the model c loaded up and was off today anyway.I get there and he rides the model c around for about twenty minutes, and tells me he isn't sure if he's ready to commit to a 24(wants a 22).I'm being patient, and after about a half hour decide that the Sunday is just a distraction-and put it away to focus on buying the bike outright. So I come within 50 of the  "substantial offer"-(which is a phone offer),and pull out the cash.literally stand there for ten minutes while he looks at the bike, looks at his phone back and forth.  I offer another 25,and he still can't decide. He wants to hold out for the full offer, cause it was a guy he rode with's older brother, and he wants to sell it to him. So,know I go into a whole explanation how it was ignorant of him to have me drive there when he had no plan in selling it to me(almost an hour each way).He says"hey,I forgot-would you be interested in a gt bash guard?"I say yea, let me see it-he goes and gets it and I say" I'll give you the phone offer if you throw in the bash guard. So the price was something fifty, and I didn't have anything but twenty's, so I ended up giving him an extra ten dollars more then he was asking. He takes the money and is holding it(thinking again). At this point I have the bash guard in my hand,so I grab the bike and start walking. He says" I guess your taking the bike"-I said yes and got the hell outta there. My average pick up is ten minutes tops-I was there an hour!Sorry for the long story-had to venthttps://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/133551/img_87095da141a243.jpg

That is an insanely bad ass bike. Stacked with parts that pretty much anyone would love to have

Re: Just your standard score

Heck of a story. I'm surprised you even got a response in the first place. CL can be such a waste of time sometimes but it really worked out for you! Great bike with some really sweet parts! The Peregrine's look like they'll clean up really nice. Cranks too. The Primo pedals look really good as well. But what stem is that? Looks very familiar but my brain isn't working yet lol. But congrats on the score! cool

I didn't overpay at all-but I hate playing games to get at a price.

Re: Just your standard score

End justifies the hassle at least but yeah coulda been much easier.  Had some guy try haggling over $50 on an old car I sold long ago to the point where I said I'm done, here's my price, done.  He agrees, and then pulls out a check.  Uh, no

You've got some major patience dealing with a guy like that. Still great find, what are your plans for the bike?

Re: Just your standard score

Stem and fork......great pickup.....I don't care $X50.00

Hutch Fun Facts: All main line Hutch's with digits only S/N (no letters or baseballs) on the rear drop outs were US made and had their dropouts stamped between late '83 and '86.  Obviously the frame manufacture would occur slightly after that, even if they just threw 'em in a bucket randomly.  There is an obvious date code in that the first 2 digits seem to be the month and the 3rd digit is pretty obviously the last digit of the year running from '83-'86.
