Good and bad examples here:

All depends on the box size- but usually with a proper bike box you can just remove front wheel, bars seat/post and good to go,
Main trick is protecting frame from front wheel axle- ....packing packing packing

Re: packing and shipping bike frame s and wheels

Maybe I'm the minority but if I'm going to sell a complete bike I use my LBS to pack and ship. Drop it off, give them the address where it needs to go to, and presto! I'm done. And I know its done well (another reason to have a good relationship with your LBS).

For parts, wheels, frames, I'm blessed (cursed?) that I am always tinkering with something so normally have various types of boxes. If I did not, again I'd reach out to the LBS and ask them... most have always been willing to give me something (saves them the hassle of breaking down and hauling to dumpster) or give them a few $$$. Worth the piece of mind.

There are plenty of examples of actual $H1t show packing which IMHO those people could care less about the community, pride in themselves, or good relationships. However, I'll leave that there before I go into full rant mode. The folks who have worked with me on deals know I pride myself on rock solid packing and fast shipping.

It's not rocket surgery. Pack item as you'd like to receive it.

Did you turn it off and then turn it back on?

Just need the right size box. I ship them just the way the factory does.

Re: packing and shipping bike frame s and wheels

I always use great caution and package accordingly when I ship. I even go the extra mile. Here's the last one I shipped.

Exactly,  you need the 9" wide box and it's a breeze.
