Who bought one of the 2017/2018 Master's?

I've always been curious if they made the platform area under the seat clamp thicker than the originals as they would tend to crack there bitd.

No lol, I meant the remake of the 87 and 88 ones. Not the new school versions smile

Basically the ones with the old school geo. Not the lineage ones.

Those frame are exactly like the 80's except the dropouts are 4mm thick as opposed the the 3.5mm of the 80's frames.

Are the vintage series welded on the bottom of the ninja star or not welded like OG?

Oh ok. I appreciate that info. But I am surprised they didn't make that seat mast area a little thicker as well considering the issues it had with cracking.

So was that the issue with the cracking, because of the welding and not the thickness of the seat mast?

My best guess is the area you are talking crack happens in the weld.  Or at least mine did.  The frame probably vibrates on hard landings if we could see the frame in super slow motion and when the top tubes vibrate, the pressure would be on the ninja star and 100% on the welds that connect it to the seat tube.  A thicker ninja star might have fixed it.  I've also heard the ninja star was not chromoly.  Ive always wondered why they didn't weld the bottom side of the star too, so the plate would be structurely sound with 2 welds keeping it from flexing.

Re: Who bought one of the 2017/2018 Master's?

As Brett said, the dropout thickness was increased from 3.5mm to 4mm.

The plate at the top tube standing platform & seat tube junction was also increased in thickness from 2mm to 3mm.  I'm pretty sure I had read that in some "official" Haro statement/spec sheet but I haven't found the source info yet.

My '88 frame cracked both at the weld around the seat tube and also in the plate itself.

I took some photos comparing my original '88 Master frame to my '15 FST Vintage/Tribute Series frame.  Hopefully you can see the difference in thickness between the two.

The camera angle looks like the ruler was off a bit but you can still see the difference.

I wonder how many master's cracked because the kid didn't have the seat post in deep enough?

That would only have made a crack under the keyhole.  The frames cracked from landing hard (or even soft) from decent air.  I cracked mine from jumping.  My buddy had an 88, who never jumped, and his didn't crack.  He had his for years but he was a hardcore flatlander.  He went through a lot of bent posts from missed rolling tricks and landing on the seat hard.  He was the best in our city.  He was doing double decades, rope-a-roni's and hitch hikers and stuff when the pro's were.

Very nice!  That will probably help a lot.  I bet they used chromoly too this time around too.

That makes sense. Similar to reinforcing the frame on a car so to speak.

Wow, you can definitely see the difference in thickness. I would hope they did they same from there on for all the Haro replica frames.
