I think I'm about to get in some trouble with the wife
Hey all ! Newbie to the BMX museum, so glad I found y'all ! Awesome site !
I was considering what to do with my old bmx bikes and stumbled across this site. I have a 84-85 Trick Star and a Patterson Racing PR-200. Out of the dozen plus bikes I used to have these were my faves so I kept them. They are covered with dust and haven't been ridden since "91ish". Which brings me why I could be in trouble with the wife...
I was thinking of selling but now I'm leaning towards restoring. Since I never do anything on the cheap this is probably gonna cost me a bit. Anyway, I look forward to doing some buy, sell, trade with y'all and I'll post some pictures as I go through the restoration process.

can't wait! one recommendation regarding restoration: restoration doesn't necessarily mean refinishing. and one more: it's only original once.
if they are your old bikes, there's no way you should sell them in my opinion. you will miss them one day
restoration doesn't necessarily mean refinishing. and one more: it's only original once. YES!!! I totally agree!! GAry

Re: I think I'm about to get in some trouble with the wife
Thanks, texasbmx. These are my personal bikes, I bought the Trick Star frame and fork about 30 years ago, paid for in $20 installments from Barney's bike shop, when they were on Park Ave. in Worcester Ma. That's the problem... I spent so much time on this bike I don't think I can let it go!

Replace old rubber, clean and ride them... That's all you need to do. So many peeps on this site wish they could still own their childhood bikes... You have two to boot. We want pics.....

Thanks El Goodo I'll have to get photo bucket when I start my restorations and become a pro member. Time isn't on my side at the moment, probably going to start in on them over the winter. I'm just finishing up on rebuilding/restoring 2 Yamaha ttr 125's.

Re: I think I'm about to get in some trouble with the wife
If I could add on, beauty set, and as they were yours never sell. But please keep the decals, they look pretty clean, but truly speak from the era. Also the invasion tour trick stars are not common. This would provide provenance.
Welcome, and I see your astute that this will cost you. Once these are set, you'll be hunting the others you had...it does feel like the fountain of youth though, so will be worth it
The battery is discharging, the oil temperature is very high, the oil pressure is very low, water temperature is off the chart and I am running out of petrol...but the clock is correct.

Wow you're going to be very happy you hung on to those bikes! You're not going to have to spend much on your bikes to get them looking good and rideable. What's going to cost is when you start looking around and wanting other bikes:)

Re: I think I'm about to get in some trouble with the wife
Welcome to the addiction. You're a lucky guy to have held onto an important part of your youth, as some members here have given you some great advice clean them up and ride them as much as you can it's like going back in time.

Re: I think I'm about to get in some trouble with the wife
First off welcome to the site.... +1 great survivors, just clean them up regrease and ride.
Consider yourself one of the lucky ones who still has their original bikes... Definitely do not sell them you will regret it. And please don't take off the Original Decals.
In the Forums on the home page there is a restoration thread with all kinds of cleaning info like how to remove rust, how to whiten your tuff wheels, how to polish...so on and so forth.
Have fun and figure out how to post pics and post some up of your progress.

Re: I think I'm about to get in some trouble with the wife
Nice rides! I'm also lucky enough to have kept one of my childhood bikes and, like you, I flirted with the idea of selling it but am glad I didn't. On the downside, I now have another 6 frames waiting to be built up!! Welcome to the madness!
