Re: Super Budget Backtrail Build

*UPDATE*
Found some Pr1mo Tenderizer Pedals for $17 courtesy of nowoldschool
https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/252160/648fcadf-8006-4b82-a023-85368ac1e5e95d4d82be33.jpeg
That brings this the total to $135 with $15 to spare wink this build was pretty cool. It’s a sturdy rider, very smooth!

Re: Super Budget Backtrail Build

Welp, this post puts this build to a close, my sand paper came in so I took care of the stem as best I could. Might of came out better with a hand held, oh well hmm

Turned out really good man! The pedals and stem top it off nicely. Good work on the stem too. Looks complete!

Re: Super Budget Backtrail Build

Nice looking build,  I see those all the time around me.  Whats the top tube length. I always thought they were pretty small frames.

If you just have small rust areas,  cut up a towel, soak it in citric acid solution and tie it around the areas you need to neutraize.  Pour citric acid into a spray bottle and just keep the towel wet.  Only takes a few hours to work on light rust.

I'd try a good DA polisher and some fine polishing or cutting compound first..bet that would do the trick.

Re: Super Budget Backtrail Build

Your build came out nice!

One word of warning - after using citric acid or oxalic acid to remove rust, you will need to thoroughly clean the chrome and apply a protective coating of wax or polish. Otherwise the parts will quickly get all rusty again.

I appreciate that info, most of the stuff I did besides the chain, the chrome was destroyed by rust beyond saving so it will be replaced.

The top tube length is really short on the x0 (19" top tube, shortest of all the Backtrail models dubbed jr. frame).  The x0 has shorter crank arms (165mm) and bars than other backtrails as well.

If you were in SD around 2004 I was the only guy tearing up the gas lamp on my KH01, even rode it through Horton Plaza a few times, SDPD didn’t appreciate that lol
