yes but its also a collectible from a popular TV show that has a big fallowing.

Yeah I know nothing about the show. If I was big fan of the show this would be a cool piece.

just look what grown ass men spend on Star wars or Dukes of Hazzard trinkets. why would this be any different. plus you got all the dads that love and grew up with Mongoose BMX and now have a shot at a affordable version of what they had as a kid. for their kid. it should sell very well.

I agree it should sell well especially at $200. Just don’t think it will be worth much more than that 40 years from now...but I’ll be dead so who knows

A BMXmuseum decal should be neatly stuck (as if intended to be on the bike) onto any of these seen on the display racks big_smile

Re: Stranger Things Edition Mongoose

I can't believe these things are selling so well.  Love the show, but a cheap Mongoose with a Netflix show theme?  Are you guys mostly buying them for yourselves, your kids, or as a future collectible?  Let me know I'm very curious.

Just a guess, but I'm betting the typical buyer is a middle-aged guy buying for display or (kept in box) collector purposes, with a few buying to give their kid a retro-looking bike like they had when they were little, and the remainder being eBay flippers.

I just don't see this being the same as Star Wars or Dukes of Hazzard toys, or even the E.T. Kuwahara.  Those movies/shows had mass appeal among kids and now, 35+ years later, excellent condition memorabilia commands high prices, in large part because most of those toys were half-destroyed with missing parts within days after the box was opened.  Near-mint or in-box examples are unbelievably rare relative to total production.

In comparison, Stranger Things is a Netflix series, not network TV or summer blockbuster, and not oriented towards kids.  With most kids today not having any awareness of the show (and thus not having a strong sense of nostalgia 30 years from now) and much/most of the bike production going to more of an adult collector audience (as opposed to being used and abused by kids), I see vastly lower demand and higher near-mint supply for the ST Mongoose compared to the other examples.

Just my speculation.

Re: Stranger Things Edition Mongoose

I just went to my local Target and asked a guy I've known from past TV purchases if one can be ordered.  He said he couldn't even find it in the main system.  I showed him pictures of the bike sitting in a Target.  He said if he had a DBI number he could see if it's in the main system, but a general search did not bring it up.  Anyone have a DBI number for this thing?

I stand corrected.  My wife and I watch the show, but my son (13) and his friends have no interest.

Had to reserve one. My local store won’t release it in the box, they don’t have a “bike builder” on schedule until tomorrow.

hmm

I dont know why I want one of these. They are completely not my kind of bike but with a few different parts it might be cool for a extra bike for the kids to cruise around on.
