1987 GT Performer

CAME FROM A LOCAL BIKE SHOP

1987 GT PERFORMER

SO A FRIEND OF A FRIEND SENT ME A TEXT ONE DAY WHILE I WAS AT WORK WITH PIC OF THIS MAUI BLUE 87 GT PERFORMER SURVIVOR. HE HEARD I WAS INTO RIDING AND RESTORING 80’S FREESTYLE BIKES. HE PROCEEDED TO PICK MY BRAIN AS TO WHAT THE VALUE WAS AS IT SAT AND WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO GET IT ROAD WORTHY AGAIN. I GAVE HIM MY HONEST OPINION, I SWEAR, OF WHAT I THOUGHT IT WOULD SELL FOR AS IT SAT AND WHAT HE WOULD HAVE TO SPEND TO GET IT GOING. THEN HE ASKED IF I WAS INTERESTED AND IF SO THE BIKE WAS MINE. I KNEW I WOULD REGRET IT IF I DIDN’T SAVE THIS THING SO I SAID LET’S ME UP WHEN YOU HAVE SOME FREE TIME SO I CAN LOOK IT OVER. WE ENDED UP MEETING THAT SATURDAY AND THE DEAL WAS MADE. AFTER SHOWING HIM MY COLLECTION HE SAID HE COULDN’T BE HAPPIER WITH WHERE THE BIKE ENDED UP.
THE BIKE WAS PURCHASED LOCALLY AT A SHOP HERE IN SYRACUSE, NY CALLED MELTZER’S IN 1987. ITS THE FIRST BIKE I EVER BOUGHT THATS SPENT ITS ENTIRE LIFE LOCALLY AND REMAINED FAIRLY ORIGINAL. IT’S NOT 100% CORRECT BUT OVER TIME I’LL LOCATE ALL THE RIGHT PARTS.
THANKS TO MY BROTHER IN LAW FOR THE 880 FRONT CALIPER TRADE AND TO 4130CHRO FOR THE DEAL ON THE UPPER GYRO CABLE
