1985 Mongoose Minigoose

BEST FRIENDS WIFE’S CHILDHOOD BIKE

1985 MINIGOOSE

MY BEST FRIENDS WIFE GAVE ME HER CHILDHOOD BIKE. THEY HAVE BEEN CLEANING OUT HER MOTHERS HOUSE OF ALL THE SIBLINGS BELONGINGS THEY HAVE LEFT BEHIND. AND THIS MINI WAS LEFT HANGING IN THE GARAGE FOR 20 YEARS OR SO UNTOUCHED. MY BUDDY FIRST MENTIONED THE BIKE TO ME A YEAR AGO AND ASKED ME ABOUT THE VALUE OF THE BIKE AND IF IT WAS WORTH RESTORING. THEN NEVER MENTIONED IT AGAIN. IT WASN’T A REDLINE RL20II SO I NEVER BROUGHT IT UP AS WELL. THEN ONE NICE SPRING DAY ABOUT A MONTH AGO THEY DROPPED IT OFF. I TOTALLY DIDN’T EXPECT IT. I THOUGHT HIS PLAN WAS TO HANG IT IN HIS POLL BARN. BUT I GUESS THEY DECIDED IT WOULD BE MORE APPRECIATED IN MY HANDS. I TOTALLY AGREE AND APPRECIATE THEM GIVING IT TO ME. IT’S DEFINITELY THE ODDBALL IN MY COLLECTION BUT THIS THING IS SO FREAKIN CUTE WITH IT’S 16.5” TOP TUBE AND ITS 1 3/8 PRO WHEELS AND PRO CHAINWHEEL.
ALSO THIS BIKE WAS PURCHASED LOCALLY IN SYRACUSE, NY AT WAYNE’S BIKE SHOP. THIS PLACE WAS SO AWESOME BACK IN THE DAY. ROW AFTER ROW OF 20” FREESTYLE BIKES AND SCOOTERS AND DISPLAY CASES FULL OF THE LATEST PARTS. I ALWAYS BEGGED MY PARENTS TO BRING ME THERE WHEN I HAD SAVED UP A FEW DOLLARS. THIS MINI BEING PURCHASED FROM THERE I THINK IS PRETTY COOL. ITS NOW MY SECOND BIKE WITHIN A MONTHS TIME THAT I ACQUIRED THAT WAS LOCALLY PURCHASED AND OWNED. I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE THEIR REACTION TO THE RESTORATION. I WAS ABLE TO SAVE EVERYTHING EXCEPT FOR THE GRIPS, TIRES, AND CABLES. I ALSO DID MY FIRST RE-LACE ON THE WHEELS. PRETTY PROUD OF MYSELF. I HOPE YOU LIKE IT.
