1986 Vector Freeplay

The Freeplay

A friend of mine was in town from Chicago visiting his family. He had bought a bike for his nephew a little while earlier that no one ever put together. As soon as I heard this I told him that I was on my way over to build the bike for his nephew. So after we were done with his nephews bike he started telling me that he has a Mongoose in his parents shed that I could have if I wanted it. So of course I said yes. When we get there he goes in the shed and tells me the Mongoose is gone but that there is some other bike in there, a weird looking one. Then he pulls out this! I couldn't believe what I was seeing at first like holy sh!t! It had been sitting in that shed untouched since the 80's. Here it is.
Thanks for checking out my bike!!

Nice!
You don’t see many of these ever but throw in the fact the matching bars all with OG decals.

Re: 1986 Vector Freeplay

Killer score ! How sure are you that the seatpost was made by Vector ?

Let's face it, after a long day, sometimes all you want to do is flop down on the couch, flip on the TV, and chow down on an easy-to-eat dinner.

Re: 1986 Vector Freeplay

It's ugly, but besides that, it's cool as hell! You owe your friend a dinner, a few drinks maybe even a reach around. :P

You can't put a price on peace of mind.

I kept all the original parts together and still have them right down to the crazily rotted tires and grips. I wanted to take the white out of the picture. Not sure that I am done with it yet either....:D
I really like that in person when I look at the bike my eyes go straight to the decals. Since everything else is the same color (almost) the decals pop like crazy. The white broke that up.

I saw an original ad for this bike on this site and it had the fluted drain pipe seat post on it in the factory advertisement.
Now that I am thinking about it I can't be sure the post was made by Vector but I am sure that it is the post that came on the Freeplay bikes.

Re: 1986 Vector Freeplay

I had this exact bike in bright green white and pink.... brother backed over it when I was a teen and broke the haro bars. years later I took it to a body shop to get the bars welded and the bike painted and never went back...... stupid!!! I later bought a white frame and fork from here and haven't touched it. you still got it?
