I Bought A Walgoose...

I saw mention of this bike (the mag wheel version) in another thread, did a search, and was quite intrigued by the spoke wheel version. I wanted an inexpensive bike to cruise around on my lunch breaks, and for $158 this seemed to fit the bill.
I haven’t done anything other than unbox it, but am pretty happy with it after my initial inspection. I do have a micro adjustable seat post and different seat I plan on installing, as well as S&M Husky bars I’ve had laying around for a while. The front brake will also likely be removed.

I do have you to thank for planting the idea in my head. big_smile Looks to have steel hubs, but the alloy rims and 2.35" tires are pretty nice.

Mongoose livery on a Schwinn frame?  Probably made in the same factory.

Re: I Bought A Walgoose...

Just get rid of the goose decals. It’s dragging a once great brand down. The whole look just isn’t goose. Otherwise it’ll do for a pub bike

Not yet. Need to get over and use my dad’s air compressor to get the grips off so I can remove the left brake lever and swap out the right side.

Crashman wrote:

The lever where it clamps onto the handle bar is plastic too... It’s a department store bike that costs less than $160. What do you expect?
I’ve got an extra brake laying around I can swap on in case the stock one is crap.

Re: I Bought A Walgoose...

My '90 GT has sentimental value and a museum's worth of NOS parts so I ride it very gently now- I was going to pick up a walgoose to thrash but I was afraid of taco'ing a rim and being out of work with a broken arm (we don't heal like we did at 16)- so I'm about a $1,200 into "a beater"...

My point is- how is it working out?
Break anything yet?
I have a friend that's 35 years old and never learned how to ride a bike. (Save that for another thread).
I'd like to get him something that's not a beach cruiser, something he can actually ride ..

Motor + rim brake = deathtrap.

Re: I Bought A Walgoose...

Decent cruiser,  report back how it rides.

I still prefer a used bike on a good deal, easy to do under $150 with a cleanup and a few new parts.  But you never know what youre gonna get until its torn down.

Ive been looking at low seat (women) alum mountain bikes lately, Non Suspension.   New spokes on the rear to center the hub,  single speed it with bmx bars,  careful chain length set up and new tires.   Could be a good light beater cruiser for under $100.   BMX style fork kicks the price up.
