Would love to find my old Dirt Bike.  It was stolen in Pompano Beach, Florida in about 1996.  It's a '92 with the block graphics on a Green frame.  Pitchforks, Slam bars, GT (DK-style) stem and GT/Profile cranks.  Superlace hubs.  Would really love to put this back in my collection.

You do realize a dual rear brake system is just a plain stupid idea.

Donovan Ritter back in the day had modified his Hutch Trick Star in a similar way.  He had a lever on each side and had modified his Rotor top piece so he could use the rear brake on either side.

For the double caliper though, would you be thinking just to use the levers in the conventional spots or somewhere else like the seatpost?

On the seat post would actually make sense for hand position transfer without locking levers, could possibley do some sick tricks that would be impossible otherwise (no idea what they would be- I'll leave that up to the current generation to figure out)

Re: double rear caliper

Only reason why I can see a bike company or any needing dual rear brakes is if they are running garbage sidepull calipers. The introduction of 990's fixed the rear braking issues.

possible to do it. anyone tried?

yes I had a old JC Higons beach balloon tire cruiser set up that way.
it had two brake cables going to one brake lever and two rear caliper brakes. I ran a home made press in adapter. that went on brake lever.
but that was my hay look at me bike lol so I went and bolt on as much shine crap as the bike would hold. kids do dumb shit. so two polished  Odyssey brakes, to  one striped of rubber brake cable. all you seen was the braided housing. going to a over polished Odyssey brake lever.lol I think that bike had 172 spoke 26" wheels. hole frame was factory chrome plated. man that bike blinded in the sun.

Re: double rear caliper

There is a pic on the museum somewhere of a normal handlebar set up with another lever on the seat post for a second rear brake but I forget where. Too lazy to put any real effort into finding it again. big_smile

I think two brakes would only be useful in Freestyle. Used for extra lock on the rear wheel especially when your fingers are stronger than one cable! Not sure how much use it would be for racing but I never really raced much.

If you can get two brake units (calipers, u-brakes, whatever) fitted to the frame, the possibility is still on the market for a normal lever set up:

Sunlite makes these. For front & rear though. I think dia compe made one bitd. Or an adapter for 2 cables. I seen one on a pro star here or Ebay.  I forget. hmm

Oh yes, yes indeed! Now you're talking. Love me some Mini's.
Two engines has been done in a VW Golf as well, not by VW though. I think a Swiss company will do the same to a Brabus Smart Car but at close to £100,000 ($130,000), according to Top Gear, why would you want to?
