Not liking this at all, there is no meat on the seat tube above the top tube.  The clamp is all the way to the weld and there is still an 3/16" of clamp left.  Oh boy!

I certainly do, but they don't have the size I need for the gearing I want to run.  I want to go a little crazy with a 42/18.  Going with a Profile Spline Drive Spider and a Chainring to achieve it.  We're were discussing colors the other day.  As of now I'm thinking polished spider, black chainring, white chain, and white chainring bolts.

It's what I noticed about the frame even before I took it out of the box.  I thought to myself that could be a 1/4" longer at least.  What is the benefit of making it so damn short?  I'm not sure a slimmer clamp exists in 30mm.  The Profile Slim Jim is discontinued and it probably wouldn't fit.  Won't this cause stress on the weld?  Doesn't make sense to me.

Measure the height of the clamp. Front side measurement where the shield is. That will help in determining what you need.

This is jive!  We have to file down their clamp to fit on their frame?  Why did they make it so short, why I ask you?  After I cool down I'm sending Chris an email, I'll show him who the real "Mad Dog" is!  smile

BRICKOS2 recommended I ditch my brakes, that was helpful.neutral

Mine is close but not on the weld, looks like your seat tube was cut to short by accident.

That's what I thought but here's a stock photo.  I'm just going to leave it as is, I don't think it will hurt anything.  Will drive me crazy for awhile, but I'll get over it in a couple of years.

Take it to a machine shop and have them machine off a few mm on the bottom of the clamp.

More like 4.7mm.  Thanks you for the suggestion, but I'm going to leave it for now.

Get this:

In meantime see if Chris will mill down a S&M clamp to fit perfect.

Ride on cool

Dig this.  Must have a gap.  I don't think they mean 3/16", but I feel better about this already.

Not the gap they are referring to. They mean need a slight gap between top flat edge of clamp and edge of post.

I know I'm grabbing at straws, they mean the seat clamp not touching the seat post, but there is a gap like I have.  I'm going with it minx.

Re: What should I do?-The Build Thread!!! S&M

A little patience and the use of a dremel, some wet sanding, then a final polish and I was able to modify a mid-school Profile 28.6mm to 30mm. If someone had access to the right equipment would be a snap. I had reservations about the possibility of ruining it but it turned out perfect. Got lucky using method I did that it turned out perfectly round on inside.

.....point is, you could also do the same with a Profile 28.6mm slim Jim clamp.

Re: What should I do?-The Build Thread!!! S&M

Couple more things came in.  Question on the bottom bracket.  The left and right side are labeled, but shouldn't it thread the same way you pedal to tighten?  Not understanding this, it's my first Euro BB.

Re: What should I do?-The Build Thread!!! S&M

Slow progress.  Seat and post are on.  Couple more goodies came today.  Waiting on my Profile 180mm No Boss Cranks, and my Profile Spline Drive Sprocket.  Hoping they would be here when I got home from work.  Still deciding on a wheelset, the set I want will break the bank, but the bike deserves it.

You don't like the brakes?  I've replaced every part already and it's not even built yet.  I had Deores on an S&M 24 years ago and had no issues.

Keeping it domestic. Shimano = Japanese.

It's hard doing an all US made (manufactured) build.
There's a US built thread on the museum somewhere.

Hell a Profile BB has China bearings.

A US branded build is easier, ie new flights are made overseas but the Redline brand is American.

A tonne of my bikes have Shimano brakes smile

Are there even good American made brakes anymore? Don't say Pauls and Bullseye.  Way over engineered in my opinion.  I do like the Paul Love Lever though.
