Get a S&M seat so everything matches.

For sure!  That's what I'm trying to do, use as many S&M parts as I can, as long as quality and performance is there.  Doesn't look like I'm going to use their Euro BB, even though it's a minor detail.

My first Intergrated Headset, Odyssey in black.  Almost went with white, but wanted it to match the black Seat Clamp and other smalls.  Thanks Blue Streak for the recommendation!

Re: What should I do?-The Build Thread!!! S&M

Damn it all!  I'm thinking of changing some major parts that I have already procured and posted.  I hate returning stuff.  There are two reasons for the possible returns; total weight and bar height.  Currently I have Pitchforks that I stupidly thought were lighter than Race Forks.  Difference of a nearly a 1/4 lb.  Not a huge difference but if you can shave a pound by choosing the right parts you do it!  Next I currently have Crusier Slam Bars with a 5.75 rise with a weight of 1.9, then I discover Bruiser Bars still have 29" Width, but with a 6.25" rise and a weight of 1.5 lbs.  I could make up for the rise with spacers on the headset, but changing these parts would lose a total of .61 lbs.  Moral of the story?  Take your time and do your research before buying.  Damn!

I really like the Speedwagons one of the best riding bmx frames I have ever had. I run outboard euro bottom brackets on mine & shimano cranks. http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/9148/008598f8e53ab_blowup5c4c891985.jpg

Nice rides!  It looks as though the outboard BB's are the way to go.  Someone else suggested those cranks.  I did a little research and they get good reviews, but they are pricey.  As they say, "you gotta pay to play!"

Re: What should I do?-The Build Thread!!! S&M

Your welcome man. I would keep the Pitchfork because I dont think the race forks come with a threaded steerer tube for the compression cap/bolt so you have to run a star nut or headlock. I would however return the bars since you want taller.

I just looked and it looks like race forks do come with the threaded steerer and compression cap now, they use to not.

I would also keep the pitchfork for the same reason as above.  That's what I ran on. both of mine. I replaced that stupid carbon fork for a pitchfork.

All the race forks now have the 24x1.5 bolt like the pitchforks. Just make sure the shop you are buying from isn’t selling some old inventory.

I would definitely recommend the bruiser bars. Perfect height, and the they have the same back/up sweeps as the race xlt bars.

Re: What should I do?-The Build Thread!!! S&M

Thanks for the input guys.  I'm definitely changing the bars out, jury is still out on the Pitchforks.  Good point on the old stock milhous.  Thanks for that heads up.

I did.  It's more of a weight issue.  I always try to shave ounces where I can.  Just like backpacking, cut the end off your toothbrush.  At the end of the day it's not a big deal, I'll probably keep the Pitchforks, this way I can finally post a pic on this tHread of some progress. wink

I still need to upgrade the forks on my cruiser, currently have some Sunday forks on it, I’ll swap them out whenever I can find some used or on sale s&m forks.

Re: What should I do?-The Build Thread!!! S&M

Another little mod I like to do on my race bikes. I swap out the stock 90 degree v brake noodle for a 110 degree noodle. It helps tuck the cable in closer to the frame. I also use the Deore brake like yours.

Nice tip.  I like that!  I had Deores on my other S&M 24 and was pleased with their performance, I looked into DXR's but it looked like the only difference was a higher price and graphics.

Looks great so far,but for me personally I would polish up the headset spacer and stem top cap.

I was thinking of going with a black stem and white headset.  What are your thoughts on that Spike?

Re: What should I do?-The Build Thread!!! S&M

I would go with a black stem, helps break up and even out all the chrome. That's how I did mine.

Long as you have some black parts on the bike, like for example....black hubs, pedals or sprocket.
