What should I do?-The Build Thread!!! S&M

I want to start by thanking the members who pushed me in the right direction to do another build for me.  As discussed in my, "What should I do thread?"  I swore off any more builds for me personally, and will continue to build for my son as long as he stays interested in BMX.  When I saw this baby come up, I could not resist.  The bug came back hard.  This is by far the newest technology in BMX for me, so I may be looking to my fellow members for help along the way.  It will be a slow build due to funding, but I think it will be fun all the same.  Here it goes.......

2017 S&M Speedwagon 24" Race Cruiser w/ 22in TT, in stunning chrome with white decals.  Can you see why I fell in love?  The attention to detail, shorter back end, and light weight have me chomping at the bit to see how it rides and handles.

Nice bike! I think with the integrated headset the frame is more of just somewhere for the bearing to sit, than an actual race like with a traditional headset.

Thanks man, I've been doing some research and gather that it's all well and good as long as you have it adjusted correctly.  Hopefully I get it right.

Re: What should I do?-The Build Thread!!! S&M

Now for the forks: S&M Pitchfork XLT for Intergrated Headsets.  I was torn between these and the Race Forks, didn't have enough knowledge so I went with these because they weighed a tad less and I've owned these in the past.  I am working on a white decal set, yes boys the carpet has to match the drapes.

Bars: May have been a little impatient to get parts going.  S&M Slam Cruiser Bars.  These are the lowest Crusier bars I've ever had, may be a little too low (5.75).  Needed the wide grip though, then I saw Bruiser Bars.  Damn, same width but 6.25 rise and lighter to boot.  That's more up my alley.  These may be in the For Sale section soon.

Re: What should I do?-The Build Thread!!! S&M

New school question.  Are the stem caps that come with headsets useless with the new S&M forks?  (See pic)
http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/6618/image5c47b98328.png

Now that S&M has this and it's threaded into the fork?  I don't see how you could use that headset cap even if you wanted to?  Anyone know?

I love my bruiser bars...

The speedwagon looks fantastic and while I love steel I would go for a DXR type crank on this build. Can't wait to see the progress.

The compression cap won’t be useable, because of the integrated one that they includeZ but the rest of the headset will work just fine!

Appreciate the input, you guys are going to really help me in this unchartered teritory of new school modern technology.  I'm definitely leaning towards the Bruisers, nearly a half a pound less also.  I'll check out that style crank.  Thanks again.

That's what I figured.  I kinda liked the way stem caps looked on the stem.  I had an old Pitchfork stem cap on a classic Redneck, it gave it a little detail.  I like the little details.  Oh well.  Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks man, ordering some more parts tonight.  Sold a couple of items for the next string of parts, it should be sick when it's done.  Will keep posting as the build develops.

They are all basically the same, just go with which ever one looks best visually to you. I like the Odyssey headsets.

The only difference I see is the amount and/or height of spacers.  I have an extended head tube fork, so maybe one with more spacer options.  I saw the same issue with bottom brackets.

Re: What should I do?-The Build Thread!!! S&M

The conical headsets are nice because you can run less spacers since the top cap is taller.http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/7404/screenshot_20190122-212831_chrome5c47d17157.jpg
