Re: OM Flyer thread- Show them off

I’m happy to own a Scot era OM.

Here’s my 95 OM Flyer enduro, The last year of the 1” on these. This frame and fork setup was traded to me for a complete non ramp room Hoffman Flash. I thought he was crazy for doing the trade, he thought I was crazy for doing the trade, we all walked away happy lol.

This is probably this bikes 4 redressing, but it has always been built with strictly mid school parts. In my opinion, that’s when the bike was made, so it should be dressed accordingly. She is dressed entirely era specific, all of the way down to the XTR brake/shifter line kit. Those are the bikes I love in this hobby, so it’s the way I build bikes for myself.

She’s subtle, she’s sooo smooth on the road that she’s my favorite bike to just go cruise on, and the gears definitely come in handy for an Old Man. I enjoy the cramp out of this bike... so much so that she’s the only one staying with me while I doing a mass clearing of everything else that I own.

Don't really know. I was pumping on it pretty hard going up a hill, something snapped and nearly sent me over the bars. Banged my knee on the stem...I remember that. Chain popped up and snapped the frame pretty hard. Looked down and that's what I saw. We were on a NC Group ride in Charlotte a few years ago when it happened. Had to walk back to my truck about 5 miles.

I thought maybe the chainring bolts were loose, but checked them on the stand right before I took this picture (which was the next day) and the ones that were left weren't. Maybe the one was where it broke, no way to know because it was long gone.

I got an OS, blue Sugino from one of the NC members, which is on it now with a set of retro Profile box cranks. That's what started the migration to blue parts.

Where are you measuring to and from?
For example, the end of the lug where the chain stay welds are at? Or on the inside of the tubing? And also to the inside of the tubing where the drop outs meet or on the welds where the connect to the chain stay?

Dropout spacing on both is 4.5”

End of lug to end of loop or end of lug to end of drop.  Both measurements have one being longer than the other.

So my blue one sn000485 is 13.5” from the lug to where the dropouts weld to the loop. My tan one sn000360 is 14”, so the older one is .5” longer in the back.

How about your’s?

So the drop out spacing on Blue is 5” vs 4.5” on Red.  Blue also has a longer chain stay.

Re: OM Flyer thread- Show them off

Nice rides fellas. Keep’em coming....

Here’s my latest project coming together. 81-82 OM. Original finish. After doing some research about the color, I spoke to a couple previous SE employees. One was head of global distribution from 81-83. He said that even though they didn’t offer Tough Guy tan as a color option on the 2nd gens, that it was common for them to be built for factory riders and even Scot himself. Not sure if that’s the case here, as it could have been a custom order- but I’m stoked to own it either way.

Tossed on a set of of OG gen 3 engraved profiles with a rare 130 BCD spider cool

Yes. Yes it is.

One of the guys I used to ride with back in the day had a Black and Gold PK, probably about 1982 or 83.

I always thought that thing was super RAD.

Then another friend got a Gold Quad Frame/Fork with all Black ano parts after he broke his '82 Nora cup GT frame.

Don't remember seeing many of the Gold F/F's, guess they are pretty rare now too.

I busted mine out today (along with a couple other bikes). Took some pics in the nice NorCal weather and cruised the neighborhood on a few of them. Looking forward to an actual long ride in the coming days.
