1985 GT Performer

1984/85 "GOING TO BE A FULL RESTORE BUT KEEPING IT SIMPLE" this is a childhood bike I use to ride, finally made its way back to me....Exactly how I remember it, I even remember putting the decals on t

This GT was a bike a friend of mines parents had restored/built for us in 1995 by someone at the time who built bikes for people in our local area, this was a bike I had rode daily for around 3 years, I'm now 36 years old and my friends parents had contacted me and asked If I would like to have a few of our old bicycles we use to ride and of course I said YES! I found it had the original GT stem, forks, and frame all of the other parts seem to be Odyssey, wheels maybe Redline, tires are RL Freaky-V's, stamped RL seat post and of course a Dominator seat, I can't quite figure out the bars but needless to say I was pretty happy....This will be my next restore probably a pink or a lavender powder other than the original parts I already have, I will be hunting down all parts original to the frame, so let the fun continue

Re: 1985 GT Performer

I'm thinking its a 1984 due to the original yellow GT Performer decals that I could barely reveal and the Tuff Neck says '85 so its either a late '84 or early '85 the frame originally was a yellow?  The forks I believe were a pink? The stem was a lavender, I could use some input If anybody has any....thanks

85 performer is my childhood bike and my fav bmx so I have to comment when I see one. Subscribed for the clean up. Any OG paint under there worth saving?

The original paint is to far gone but yeah I thought this bike was long gone but I've stripped it down and found the dropouts are a bit bent out of shape fixing those, and it appears the forks were cut down just a little but still usable, the original decals appear to be '84-'85 because they just say GT Performer GT, can't locate any other markings or vins, but I will leave consistent updates and thanks for the interest

Re: 1985 GT Performer

QUESTION, I'm trying to make sure I order the correct decals and I'm starting to believe its the Pro Performer ones because if you look close at the photos with the revealed original decals on the downtube in between GT and Performer it appears to me it said PRO in that small cursive print and the spacing is larger than the lower part of the decal, I didn't catch this while it was right in front of my face neutral while I was stripping the paint but let me know what you guys think.

                                                                                                                                                  Thanks Guys,
                                                                                                                                                                  Mark

That date code should be on the steer tube. It'll just be 2 numbers

Re: 1985 GT Performer

I’m no GT expert but from what I can tell performers and pros share the same frame, if I am wrong someone correct me. The difference is the components. So if you can recall your OG components you should have your answer. For example if you look at my 85 performer stem, it’s consent with all the other plain old perfomer models, not pro performer. I believe pros came with the mallet stem. Once again, no expert here but I did own an 85 performer BITD and still have one. When I built my 85 it’ sports pro performer decals even though I was really building a performer since it was already decaled/powdered before I got it. So either way, you can’t cant go wrong. IMO
