Is Dyno dead?

Dynos do not sell, nor do people buy them often. Only the Dyno detours are worth anything. What happened and what’s your take on the Dyno brand

They flooded the market in the 90s and were everywhere so they're easy to find for cheap.  Old Dynos from '85-90 or so are still desirable, as are models like the Slammer.

Re: Is Dyno dead?

They're pretty good riders I know that. I built up a few chrome nineties Compes over the years and decked them out with the good GT catalog parts for that year and they were cool bikes.

Then the lord looked upon the bored kids and said, “Let there be Bmx", and there was Bmx, and it was.......rad

Re: Is Dyno dead?

.
I remember staying inside a BMX store here in Germany during the 80's.
A good friend of mine and myself have talked about the worth and coolness of the single trademarks, wherein Dyno in our eyes was just a cheap and poor line of GT.
What a pity, because during the last years I become aware that I love the design of Dyno a lot!
Particular the old ones out the the 80's having those bended muscle forks are very sweet  big_smile
Very nice, that Dyno hasn't changed the basic design over the years relating to the frame (just a little bit bigger downtube).

I am such an 80s kid...

???
Um, i'm not a huge dyno guy.  but i def dig'em.  am i missing something?
never had an issue selling a nice (or even a rough) dyno.
seems to be a pretty huge following too.  i love their early stuff (pre GT) and i've had a couple Pro Compe's that were awesome.  I have even noticed that the VFR's and NSX's are starting to carry a higher asking price tag on them lately (mid school is easing its way in?).  Those used to be in the $100+ dollar range shipped. Now I see people asking in the mid to upper $200's for them.  even locally people are asking more on Craigslist and what not.

Re: Is Dyno dead?

As a race bike guy I never like the Dyno brand but they have some cool looking FS stuff.
I have no idea what they ride like because I have never been on one.
I did see them as a lower end GT because a lot of times they came stock with GT parts. Didnt seem to have an identity of their own. I know this could be found on anything GT owned for example latter Robinsons.
As for today, I feel there is still quite a following and not dead.

The 85 Dyno D30 is one of my all time favorites.  Such a cool design and brings me fond memories of middle school.

Re: Is Dyno dead?

I’d love to find one of the frames and forks made with the old Patterson tubing. 1986 maybe?

Re: Is Dyno dead?

Don’t get me wrong, I love Dynos, I just see them posted and sit there for months while walgoose and everything else get sold immediately so I was just confused. Great to hear I’m not the only one who likes Dyno still. Dyno ???????????????? For me

Re: Is Dyno dead?

I’ve had 5 dynos in the past 2 years. 87, 91, 92, 97 and 98. All sold without a ton of effort at a price I was happy with

I’m from Houston and I collect so I’m speaking on what I see in my area, seems I’m one of the very few who still actually would put a Dyno, other than compe or detour in a collection. I don’t understand it but leaves more Dyno for me

Cool, keep in my I’m a Dyno fan I just look at all these dynos go to waste out here and it makes no sense to me. Seems like only GT, mongoose and the super rares sell fast out here

That’s the answer I was looking for. So they pulled a walgoose move and flooded the streets with them til everyone had one and it just became a simple Dyno instead the awesome bike it is

Dyno is still around making bikes. but mostly low end mountain bikes and a cheep version of a detour. you see them in sporting goods stores.
