epoch headset aluminum cups

anyone played with aluminum cups with an epoch.
i want to use polished alloy not the chromed cups the headset came with

i was going to buy some spare cups but the profile seems different, don't want to
be tossing my dough around.

Re: epoch headset aluminum cups

A photo would help, but do mean the top cap or the actual bearing cups??

If the top cap, if could be a freestyle cap rather than race cap.

Race is wider and taller, Freestyle is smaller to fit inside a gyro setup.

Freestyle cups on the outsides, race in the middle.

Race (overlaps the top cup)

Freestyle (sits above the top cup)

The inner cone also differs accordingly
Freestyle on the left, race on the right

Re: epoch headset aluminum cups

Guess it depends on the diameter of the cups if the race top cap can fit over them. I do recall someone mentioning before that GT Epoch bearing races are a specific size compared to regular head sets.

Re: epoch headset aluminum cups

No not really.

Hutch Fun Facts: All main line Hutch's with digits only S/N (no letters or baseballs) on the rear drop outs were US made and had their dropouts stamped between late '83 and '86.  Obviously the frame manufacture would occur slightly after that, even if they just threw 'em in a bucket randomly.  There is an obvious date code in that the first 2 digits seem to be the month and the 3rd digit is pretty obviously the last digit of the year running from '83-'86.
