Student team developing rider progress device + app seeks interviews!

Hey there Girls & Guys!

Hope this is the appropriate subforum, and we apologise in case it's not roll

We are a team of grad students from Aalborg University, Denmark, and avid fans of MTB & BMX. Inspired by our personal interests, the focus of our current project is creating a device & a linked app/platform to support bikers’ training, progression and quality of life in general.

Even though we’ve done quite a lot of research on alternatives and preferences already, it’s still a bit unclear what features would actually be helpful and in demand. So, we figured that the best way to learn of these would be to ask You guys directly!

In essence, we’d like to have a short 1-on-1 interview with as many of you as possible, to learn about your personal thoughts on the topic. They would be done through Skype, Messenger or anything similar that suits you. It wouldn’t take more than 15 minutes, but hearing your opinions in person would help us out a ton! There’s 5 of us in total, so we can adapt to the time of your preference and have one of us join you whenever it’d be comfortable! big_smile

So, if you happen to ride MTB or BMX regularly, and have a few extra minutes on your hands, please comment below or shoot us a PM! If possible, please describe there in a sentence or two how long you’ve been biking, and on what level you practice the sport (pro, competitive amateur, leisure, etc. – we’re interested in all opinions, but knowing this would help in our preparations). Finally, please do tell us your preferred timeframe(s) for us to reach out to you!

We’d be grateful to hear your voices on this topic! We will do our best to come up with something that could even have practical use later on! Thanks for taking the time to read our post smile

I personally think this seems legit.  The wording is not something a scammer's verbiage would ever translate to.

Anything that helps keep bicycling (MTB, BMX, commuting, etc) on people's minds is good in my book.

Could be a nice way to gather marketing info that could be sold to manufacturers.

Grad students who can't spell "apologize"......? Plus, there's riders worldwide, why here? Why us? Seems shady to me...

Re: Student team developing rider progress device + app seeks interviews!

Some people from another country that misspell a couple words? Really? People who speak English as a first language spell worse than that.

For me,if it's possible...

1) heart rate/ max heart rate
2) distance tracker
3) time spent in the air! That would make the app for me, but I can't see how it would be possible unless I plotted all the jumps elevation in a GPS.

Every time I get on my bike I win. Ms.BMX.

I don't have enough faith to believe in evolution.

Re: Student team developing rider progress device + app seeks interviews!

To disperse some rumours over here... roll

Yes, https://www.en.aau.dk/ is our school. We're 2nd year MSc students enrolled in the New Venture Creation program, held on the main campus. Feel free to dig into it if you have doubts.

Story: a Sports Science major student in our group developed a prototype for a device during his last semester, which is able to automatically classify performed BMX tricks and measure factors such as jump height, impact force, time spent in the air, etc. We've formed our team around the idea and are doing our best to perfect it and maybe make it market viable in the future. Nonetheless, it gives us plenty of experience in gathering input from the audience, interviewing, and general planning. We've come up with 20+ factors that the device could potentially be made to measure, but gotta narrow our focus down so we're trying to get as much input as possible on the matter from experienced riders who have more insight into the utility of these, compared to us at least.

Finally, it doesn't take a grad student to know that "apologise" is also a correct way spelling the word, albeit in British English smile

Take care and cheers for the positive responses so far, we'll try and reach out asap!
