Hey D -- so the man himself just commented on the frame I have. Seems it wasn't a completed Gardner frame, but a tube-set that Darcy and Cecil from Basic Bykes got along with the finished frames, and this frame was then welded up later on, by "someone else."

Re: The Standard Byke Co. 1992-1993 Frame Registry

Some pics of Steve Roy's Basic / Gardner straight out of the acid bath. (There was a LOT of paint on there...) Yellowing is residue from the chemical process. Note, no serial number.

Re: The Standard Byke Co. 1992-1993 Frame Registry

Nice work smile Your pics are interesting to me and not because of the lack of serial number, but the downtube junction at the bottom bracket. If I`m correct the pierced downtube was a short lived idea kinda overkill. There are others that know more about it than me I`m sure, but what I can tell you is that out of all the 92`s I have only one has that pierced bottom bracket and that is Shorty G182. Thanks for posting the pics is good stuff cool

I`d like to add your frame next to my shorty if your ok with it.

Re: The Standard Byke Co. 1992-1993 Frame Registry

Progress on Steve Roy's Basic / Gardner tube set. Some information direct from Cecil Milligan of Basic:

"I see you do in fact have one of Steve's team frames, looks like possibly his 2nd frame... not a Gardner-built frame, but 90% of the pieces were made there, with the remaining 10% or so of small bits being made and welded in Vancouver. Our custom frame builder was a place called Toby's Cycleworks, a mostly custom road and MTB frame/fork builder, but he also built the first 20+ Skull Skates 26" BMX cruisers. He also made almost all of our bars, seatposts, 2nd gen run of steel silencer & basic pegs, and 1st gen Millenium stems and 1st gen Aluminum Silencers... and some small bits that never really got into production, other than for team use."

I have a Sears bike from the 60's that is built like that. FYI. The tubes come in so far it's really a trick to get a OPC thru there.smile. Cool thread.
