Well, There is a chance that it was an AMF frame and chainwheel cover, but not a Hawk. The front gusset on the Hawk does not match the one on Mikey's bike.  There where also two generations of that Lester mag. The difference was the reflector tabs. The movie bike Lester wheels had thin triangular tabs or mounts for the reflector (first gen).  That to me says late seventies AMF.  But there where other parts on the bike that are 100% early eighties Murray.

Re: The Goonies bike build (All of them)

Alright! been working late past couple days.  Well later.  So breakdown has been slow.  I did order a chain cover that I think will be the winner. We'll see. wink

So lets talk about what it takes to figure out what is what on these bikes.  The first thing I did was watch the movie to see what I could find.  Then of course I just ended up drinking beer and enjoying the movie clear through. lol  Next I started pausing the movie but realized I just wasn't getting the clarity I needed.  So I ordered the HD version, yikes Wow, what a difference!
That purchase has helped.  But it was when I figured out what bike Brand had that lead me to the conclusion that Mikey's bike was a Murray.  I had been trying to figure out what chainwheel Mikey's bike had.  With pausing the movie I had enough clarity at that point to realize it was a very specific chainwheel, and chances are that if I could find That chainwheel I would figure out weather it was an AMF or a Murray.  So I figured out That Brand had a Murray Baja 10 speed and the smaller front chainwheel on those is specific to Murray.  And it looked as if it was a match to mikey's but there was just not enough clarity in pausing the movie to make a good match.

Now that takes us to the sticker card that Kurt_Rad posted earlier.  Topps.  The baseball and basket ball card producer, made a full set of cards for the movie back in the day. Including a cool sticker card set.  So I bought a full set and I found the key to one eyed Willie. lol No, not really.  I found a clear match.  Hear we go.https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/56712/20180717_0330245b4f098044.jpg

Anybody see any other specific details that are visible in that sticker card?

Re: The Goonies bike build (All of them)

There are a few things I noticed in that photo. First you get a pretty good Idea of the tire type.  You can also see that the wheels are shiny side and you can see that the red paint runs almost the entire length of the top tube.  At least the top of it anyway and its not solid, looks like they took three swipes from left to right if the bikes front was facing them.  You can see what I mean in the first photo on this thread as well.  Almost like they where going for a striped thing.  It also looks like they may have sprayed a thin layer of maybe turquoise paint along the bottom (front) half of the seat tube and the top of the left chainstay.
There's some funky paint stuff going on with the chain cover too. That doesn't pertain to this photo though, we'll get into that when the chain cover gets here and I'll try to get some screen shots from the movie on here.

Re: The Goonies bike build (All of them)

Looks like you nailed the sprocket. What's the gearing on this bike?

The real story about nowoldschool is I bought an Elm Street tire. Later I got a message saying he wanted $10 more through Friends and Family or he would cancel the sale. I left a neutral feedback about it and he returned a neutral. I asked to have it removed, but had to agree to his being wiped too. After my pro membership expired I left a negative for how it went down.

What life without dedication?  Great endeavor, this thread is why I love the museum so much. Can’t wait for the progress. You are blowing it out of the water young blood!  Will you take these builds all the way to the bike with training wheels on it that older brother goes flying off into the woods?
