What's really cool is his mom is letting him do it in the house.  Crazy hot outside around here.

Re: Look what showed up last night.

We finished up today blowing everything apart and have bearings and hardware soaking and did some light cleaning on everything else.  Had the chance to teach him the proper way way to remove a stem.http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/49259/img_57265b384d14c2.jpg

Still searching for my missing bikes from BITD. 1979 Blue Max serial: CI9 221346 and 1977 Webco serial: 42667. Both were last seen at Spoke and Sport Bicycles in Spokane, WA around 1984. $600 reward if found!!

Re: Look what showed up last night.

Ok so I decided I'm going to take care of the mags.  Had them soak overnight in Simple Green and then took they to the car wash to get them clean.  This afternoon I sprayed the hubs down with WD40.  Then this evening I blew the wheels apart.  Next I'll clean the mags with Simple Green and hose off then straight to the dishwasher and then soak with WD40 to bring back the color.

Re: Look what showed up last night.

The mags hit the dishwasher first thing this morning for a hot rinse and then WD40 and now they've been baking in the sun for the last 5 hours.  Flipping every hour.  http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/49259/img_57345b3d25f58a.jpg

Re: Look what showed up last night.

Ok may need help finding a new part for the rear cassette hub.  It's item #8 on the spec sheet.  Can anyone confirm if it's Shimano and how I may go about finding a replacement?  I had it soaking in WD40 to remove the heavy rust and now it's super rough.  Maybe it will still work?http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/49259/img_57365b3e50af14.jpg

Re: Look what showed up last night.

Wheels are back together.  Went ahead and polish the surfaces on the rear spline that make contact with the bearings and all is good.  Spin smooth.  Now my son just needs to find time to work on the frame fork and bars.  Playing in a basketball tournament today and tomorrow but may have some time tomorrow evening.  He has already cleaned all the hardware and blue parts.  Just need to make the chrome shine!

Re: Look what showed up last night.

Well it's done.  My boy did the majority of the work.  Between athletic activities and being crazy hot he learned a lot.
