Re: so when will we be to old for these bikes ?

We are already to old for them but young at heart!  I'm 49.  When it comes down to it everyone is into something to try and stimulate their brain chemistry in a positive direction.
For many it is nostalgia and maybe accomplishing some simple mechanical feats. The comradarie doesn't hurt either. cool

Plus cars take up too much space!

I sometimes think the the same thing " why am I doing this?"  The satisfaction of a find or a build lasts about 2 days.

But whatever it's still fun

Glad to hear that.  I know there are some 60+ guys attending shows, but when it comes to riding BMX bikes around (not racing), I don't see it all in my neck of the woods.  I'd say do what you're comfortable doing, bro.  F**K the critics!

Re: so when will we be to old for these bikes ?

I'm 47. Took a few years ago from ridng flatland to grieve the loss of my parents, and a mentor who committed suicide. During that time, I often wondered if I'd ever be able to "go back". Although I gained some depression weight, I'm slowly easing back in to it. As far as the building aspect, I'm am as excited to start, build, and finish as I was then. Maybe more now as I find the mechanical aspect of it a real stimulant. I have no desire to leave it, nor do i see myself leaving at all. I tell my wife, and kids often that I'll build, and collect till I die. We all need a hobby.

BMX is so much more than simply "kids bikes". It's the first sense of freedom we ever experienced. Its an outlet from the everyday stresses we all experience. It's art in motion smile

Re: so when will we be to old for these bikes ?

I'm 51 and just started riding park last year! Sure...I'm the oldest guy at the Park but when some 16 yr. old kid asks how old I am I proudly tell them my age- I find it inspiring to be out there and still trying to do a "young mans" sport.

Once I had to show them my license because they didn't believe I was 51!

Then there's the weird part when 2 of my daughters who are in high school realize a few of the regulars at the park are in their classes! Creepy guy alert! Word got out a few weeks ago and they made the connection then but when one of them asked to borrow my Allen Keys I introduced myself as "Gabby's Father" the kid couldn't believe who I was- he said it was cool that I was there and I told him don't give her any shit because I am here and both had a good laugh over it.

I figure if I can still hit the 1/2 pipe at 60 then I have reached a personal goal

And then the one day you find ten years have got behind you

Re: so when will we be to old for these bikes ?

I'm 46...took a 10 year leave of absence from Hot Rodding and drag racing and have been thinking about my collection. Came to the conclusion, selling it all and/or parting it all out, and that begins now..or asap. Probably starting with my #1 chrome XL-24 with a combination of old school hutch goodies:D http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/46239/hutch15b2c512066.jpg
