GENERAL LEE..LET'S TALK, POST EM UP

This has been on the 'ol list a while. I almost bought a new one in '97-'98, but got the '04 HARO MASTER.
Being an original DUKES OF HAZZARD fan..All the while, always wanted a GENERAL..
http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/36359/general-lee.cache-924x924-20150705192116-640x4805b1e018c8a.jpg

Now that I got a taste for new school bikes, I'm thinking about the GENERAL again and wondering what's the best way to go. Mid school is heavy as far as I know, but all 4130 and the chain stays are that curvy shape which I always liked.
http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/36359/dk97gl5b1e0266e2.jpg

Now, the newest incarnation of the GENERAL is also 4130 and light, but the original frame characteristics of the first gen (lol pun intended) bikes are gone. And most new school frames all look alike for the most part.
http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/36359/a1562c07a47f_lg5b1e029d06.jpg

I'm also wondering about the 2018 22" GENERAL..
I know 24" and 26"..but the 22" has got me a bit confused lol.

Anyone know the difference between the '97 and '98 GENERAL LEE?

Re: GENERAL LEE..LET'S TALK, POST EM UP

I have a black General.  I like the dk macho hubs (rear is a flip flop).  Cool bike, but I need to thin the herd a bit.  I think this was the last year of the 4130 frame?

Rear wishbone was made progressively shorter from the original 97. 97-98 have the room to mount the 01 decals, then 99 was even shorter and the decals went to in front of the seat post on the top tube. Look at mine posted above.
I’m fairly sure late 99 was the last of the US made full 4130 frames, then of to Taiwan. The star in the gusset also was only from the US made frames, till the recently reissued frames. All Taiwan’s have ‘dk’ in the gusset
Hope this helps

Re: GENERAL LEE..LET'S TALK, POST EM UP

The only General I rode was a 24", I honestly have no idea about the year but it was real long in the rear and real short in the front. I hated it. I have not looked at the 22 for geometry, but it is right in the middle of 20 and 24s. You may think that is pretty obvious, but I was surprised at how perfect 22s are. All the best points of both worlds! Well, If you are an 18 year old shredder who rides every single day then you would probably find a 22 sluggish in the air.

Re: GENERAL LEE..LET'S TALK, POST EM UP

The 22" does have some good numbers. Way better looking (on paper) than the cruiser i rode.

Re: GENERAL LEE..LET'S TALK, POST EM UP

Finding a 1997 will be very hard. It has taken me quite a few years to get the few I have. 1998 is easier to find and usually have a 21" top tube also.

2018 Pedal Driven Cycles "General Lee" I had Dave build for me. Based on the 1997 but new school geo. Same as his 22" kool thing.

Re: GENERAL LEE..LET'S TALK, POST EM UP

The first year 1997 is my favorite. They are getting so hard to find. I have both colors that were available that year orange and black. Orginal paint and decals on both. I like my black one the most because it took me nearly two years to find one. I ride them both regularly
