1984 Skyway T/A

This was one of my dream bikes back in '84. I saw it for the first time at a bike shop called City of Bicycles in Inglewood, California. I was always mesmerized by the tear drop shape of the tubes. After a lot of eBaying and a pretty penny, it has come to a completion. Circa April 2006.

Sorry my man. Like I said, this bike was one of my dream bikes, besides a looptail PK, back in the day. Not only did it take lots of time and money, but I got it close as I remembered (color-wise) it back in 1984 when I was 9 years old. I used to drool and gawk at the T/A on display through the front window of the bike shop I mentioned in my description. I remember that the T/A was around $500 then, probably $1,000 in today's money. But I'm not insinuating that I'd sell it for that amount anyways. Thanks for looking.

Re: 1984 Skyway T/A

very nice bike..those white ones always look sharp.  I had a chrome one in almost  perfect stock condition and sold it about 8-9 yrs ago.(for 75.00) also sold my original patterson racing  bike for 50.00 at about the same time.  Sold them to couple young  neighbor kids that kept hounding me to sell them a bike.  Hey at least I kept my looptale PK. and  my 84 GT.

Re: 1984 Skyway T/A

Thank you. I had that bike for a little over 5 years, and the time went by fast.

I bought the f & f for $250 off some guy who needed some quick cash. This was back in '06. I intuitively knew this frame and fork would rise in value. Most of the parts are either NOS or new, sans f & f, and powerlite bars. I bought that Tange blue seat post clamp for like $20 I think, the Uni Pro for $50, and the MKS pedals for like $40, the Sugino GT cranks for like $100 all NOS or mint condition back in 06. Now, most of these parts have at least doubled in priced because they're becoming extinct. This was when OS BMX collecting was nascent. Now it's in full swing because era correct NOS parts are like impossible to get, unless you want to pay a kidney and a liver for them...which I won't. That's why my PK loop build is going to use a lot of reissue or repop parts.

Thanks for looking y'all. My PK Loop will be my very last OS BMX build. I'll update that soon. This hobby is getting way too expensive, and it's time for me to move on.

It was on La Brea. When you're heading north on La Brea, it's on the right. It was a small bike shop with road bikes on the right and BMX bikes on the left, as you entered the shop. That shop brings back so many memories. I remember the smell of fresh, brand new rubber permeating the air as you walked in, along with all the anodized blue, red, gold, chrome and everything that was common for that era. I remember the PK Ripper was hanging in the front window, and then the Skyway T/A took that spotlight. This was back in the early 80s.

City of Bicycles; Royal Cyclery (in Hawthorne, CA); Cone's Bike Shop (in Harbor City/Torrance, CA); The Bicycle Source (in Harbor City/Lomita, CA) were the shops bitd. wink
