Re: **FINDING QUAMEN GROUND**

A question for the frame experts! Did Quamen use ProMoly 4130 (made by Plymouth Tubing Company out of Illinois) on all of its frames or just some?

Re: **FINDING QUAMEN GROUND**

I've been planning on building the G83 frame for a few years now. The Shit Show class in the Covid build off was the nudge i needed! The frame is kinda rough.  Someone modified the stays to accommodate wider tires. Whoever did it, did a pretty good job! Cobbled together with spare parts, really cool spare parts! I did buy a new chain.

Re: **FINDING QUAMEN GROUND**

Sweet build Matt!
Mick can’t wait to see that proto race frame built. Glad to see the brand and this thread getting some love. I’m entered in the Mid-School category with this all original 1998 G1 frame I picked up from my pal Brian (Polterdeal) I’m gonna share progress both here and in the build off thread. Be cool to see your progress here too! Here’s the frame: https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/97791/g1a5c1cf97d865e93c2fb8e.jpg

Re: **FINDING QUAMEN GROUND**

& then there were three! Excellent stuff! I love the race frame, from the factory raw finish:-

...to the off-set seat tube:-

and the dinosaur-like dropouts:-

Am going for the industrial look with Odyssey forks, Standard bars and Profile cranks, all rawed out! cool

Hello my Quamen brothers, I have been searching for one of these since mine was burned in the 2017 fires here in Sonoma county. I am looking for one in 20.5 top tube.

Let me if you have one that you would be willing to let go or know of someone that might have one for sale.

Here is a link to the article from FatBMX

Thanx!

Re: **FINDING QUAMEN GROUND**

That's a cool-looking bike ^^^ SIN - sorry to hear what happened to it. So is that one of the "Cool" frames?

JHARJO wrote:

Tell me about it! Another interesting thing is the frame material. The stamping on the tubing can still be seen and that states that it's made of ProMoly, which was a new one for me:-

https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/47558/promoly-stamping5e94e4859a.jpg

Turns out that ProMoly is made by Plymouth Tubing Company out of Illinois:-

https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/47558/plymouth-promoly-ad5e94e4e5be.jpg

According to the factory blurb, ProMoly is seamless alloy 4130 that exceeds industry specs and is the preferred choice for various chassis builders including rally cars and dragsters. Not sure how that translates to the humble BMX frame but...

Re: **FINDING QUAMEN GROUND**

Yeah, I would love to ask Zenta Sugimura a few questions about my frame. Apparently there were three made, with a white one being sent over to Japan, so mine is either number 1 or 2. Here's the man himself:-

Re: **FINDING QUAMEN GROUND**

I tried to blow that pic up on the big screen but still couldn’t work it out! Could be pedals or a stack of something.

I’m not on Facebook but since many people are, I wonder if Zenta could be found and/or contacted on there??

Did a bit more on the race rig today:-

https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/47558/6ad9a6d7-6b64-472d-859b-ca52e63f190b5e9967daaf.jpeg

Brakes now installed, so took it for a quick ride. Man, that Halo Clickster lives up to its name!! Planning to apply the decals this weekend then it’ll almost be done! smile
