1990 Auburn CR-20R

Before photos.  Not sure what I will do yet.

Bought this off of ebay a while back. GT three piece cranks, Odyssey Triple Trap pedals, "GT" superlace wheels (doubt it), and Tecktro brakes with the "Big Cheese" brake bridge.  I am going to try to get this looking a little bit more era correct.

Re: 1990 Auburn CR-20R

Yeah i agree. I would not change a thing on this bike. It is one of my favorite auburns on this site. Also could you tell me what year those cranks are from. I recently bought those same ones and i have no idea when they were released.

Re: 1990 Auburn CR-20R

Not sure what year they are but I have found a shop that has about 6 chain side arms for the same cranks.  I need to see if anyone has any matches to them that they would like to trade.

They do look like superlaces, what makes you doubt them?

Re: 1990 Auburn CR-20R

Rividude, I think it needs a couple of little tweaks to get it where it needs to be, like that little bit of color we talked about.  Plus it is still at Charlies messing with his head right now as it sits in the box waiting for its little brother to get shipped too.

djd3306, I am not sure about the hubs because I only knew of superlace wheels being chrome or white (these are grey and charcoal) and there are a couple of imperfections in the quality of the hubs.  I have been told that they are genuine, but that they were just built later on and did offer different finishes.

I like the rear brake assembly, pitbulls tend to route the brake cable into the seat clamp.

the cranks are late 80's early 90's I believe they was a upgrade to the Gary Ellis pro series complete.

Re: 1990 Auburn CR-20R

I have been looking for more of the same cranks.  This bike came around after I got out of riding, so my in info on it and the cranks is very sparse.  As far as the upgrades go (sorry to take so long in replying), the bike now has genuine Araya 7X rims with a semi matching blue Suzue hubs on it and a shnifty little decal that was donate to me by a friend of mine.

Those cranks should be a bit later than early 90's. Team Model bikes from GT (GT, Robinson, Auburn, Powerlite & Dyno) from the early 90's had GT 3-pc cranks by Profile. Everything else had 1-pc cranks. I don't think they started doing a "pinch-bolt" style crank until the late 90's.
Beautiful bike. I love the early Auburns.

Would love to find my old Dirt Bike.  It was stolen in Pompano Beach, Florida in about 1996.  It's a '92 with the block graphics on a Green frame.  Pitchforks, Slam bars, King Headset, GT (DK-style) stem and GT/Profile cranks.  Superlace hubs.  Would really love to put this back in my collection.
