Re: what is "NOS before install?"

It still means it's in excellent condition.
NOS before show mounted is just as good as NOS in the package to me... because I'm not hanging it on a shelf for looks, I'm going to use and build every part I get or sell them if I don't use them

Tioga Comp Ramp Tires
Early Redline PL - 24 Forks
88 Skyway T/A 280 Forks

Then why not just say "In great/excellent/fantastic condition only mounted once"?

NEW old stock refers to a new product. If it has been used it is not new any more. It's just a stupid way of asking more money for something.

If I drove a car off of the car lot I lose money on it, even though it is practically new it isn't new any more.

Carry on.

Exactly! I can care less about nos. Once I build it, either i will ride it or I will sell it to someone who will. Bikes are meant to be ridden! Or else why own it? It's like a hot rod. Why put 60 gs into it and then trailer it to shows. Friggen ridiculous!

My favorite is "powdered by Chip @ C4" to justify a higher price. We're not talking about art pieces here. They make it sound like it was retouched by Picasso or something.

Re: what is "NOS before install?"

Isn't everything "NOS before install"?

Hutch Fun Facts: All main line Hutch's with digits only S/N (no letters or baseballs) on the rear drop outs were US made and had their dropouts stamped between late '83 and '86.  Obviously the frame manufacture would occur slightly after that, even if they just threw 'em in a bucket randomly.  There is an obvious date code in that the first 2 digits seem to be the month and the 3rd digit is pretty obviously the last digit of the year running from '83-'86.

Re: what is "NOS before install?"

Show mounted I can understand but NOS before being mounted I laugh at everytime. Same thing with powdered by Chip at C4 labs.
Chip is a good dude, nothing against him at all. I have had nothing but great dealings with Chip. I just laugh when I read that in a description.
Just list the part with good pics and if it is a hot item it will go

Re: what is "NOS before install?"

Why do people want to spend the big money on nos when they can take a beat up part and turn into new for a fraction of the cost

I've had a few things powdered that looked like total shit when I got them back.  When people say it was done by Chip at least they know it was done by pro that knows about bikes. My 2 pennies.

Re: what is "NOS before install?"

Very true, but I’m pretty sure chip at C4 labs isn’t the only person in the country no knows what he’s doing. There’s some real quality powder coating shops in Sacramento that know they’re doing, gaurantee their work, and charge a lot less than C4 does.

Sure, but the community may not know them. It really does mean something whether you believe it or not. A lot of folks like to refinish stuff, and him doing it means a lot to the new buyer.  I don't care either way because it doesn't interest me whatsoever.

Yeah and I’m not bashing him by any means. He does good work. I just think it’s hilarious when I see “powder coated by Chip at C4 Labs”. It’s just one of those things that people do on this site that I get a good laugh at.

Doesn't mean "USED", used means ridden, but by the same token, no longer NOS per se.
