I’m sure that lots can recognize this famous photo of one of the GREATS - MARTIN APARIJO!!
I have looked at this photo many times, and always thought to myself- that bike is BAD AZZ!! 

1st you should know this - I AM A DAYGLO ADDICT!!  That being said, I have been snagging them up for a few years now.  One however, I had never had the chance to get my hands on - the DayGlo Yellow of 86.  This color had been the hardest to find by far.  I had/have a WTB post up and was looking for the hard to find DayGlo Yellow goodies.  I did score a DG Y frame and fork off of eBay, but it is in dire need of a restore - age, abuse, neglect, rust, missing paint, and sun fade have taken a toll on it.  It was a complete bike as purchased, and I sold everything not OG from it to recoup some of the expense.  Here is what was left.





Apparently, in the disassembly to ship to me, they used a torch to free up some stuck pedals and burnt the crap out of the chain stays. The burns were not there in the Ebay listing.  Also discolored the chrome on the cranks.  Lovely!

I eventually found a set of OG bars, but being the skeptic I tend to be, were they really OG?  So the post stayed up in hopes to find more.  Then member erichevy posted the “Martin” pic as a color reference.  We both thought a replica of that bike should be done. Soon after that member chromey hooked me up with OG bars and seat post.  He was thinking the same thing - maybe someday to build that bike.

I wasn’t yet committed to the build.  After staring at the picture again admiring the combo of chrome, DG Y, and lavender parts, I happened to notice the “mods” in the picture.  A third brake lever lower on the bars, and 3rd rear stander cut off and positioned downward.  HMmm...  AWESOME!!  My curiosity was on the move, and i was going to build it!!  Heck, I had the DG Y goods now.

Yesterday, this arrived in the mail.  So here we go.




This is a Dec. of 85 Japan “baseball” stamped frame.  I’m assuming that the original was a US made “FS” stamped one, but this will do until I find a FS.  I wanted to do it all in survivor parts so I wouldn’t guilt myself out of riding it. 

I have the better half of the parts, but still need a few.  Also would appreciate any and all knowledge or guesses at what some of the questionable parts are. 

These are my guesses on what I still need——

Wheels - race lace sealed with Araya hoops?
Brakes - Nippon F & R, I have a front in white
Levers - black Ody RX-3 with polished/raw levers?  Looks like 2 clamping bolts from the picture by his hand, and left lever is not all black
Lever 3 - Ody drilled 2000 style in Lav?
Lavender seat will be tough to find
Grips - have no clue with the low flanges

Fork standers - appears to me to be a shadow on the side facing away from him so I’m leaning toward a gen 2 (87) style stander with the GT cutout.
Chain - Izumi?

Gyro top plate is white maybe?
Headset?
