The Official KENT BMX Thread

When my first bike popped a weld, I received a hand me down from my older cousin - a 1984 Kent Ambush.  Even though already well used, the Ambush got me through quite a few great years. It was the source of many great memories.

Kent had some great starter bikes in the 80's. And for nostalgic reasons, a Kent was on my build to-do list.  While researching a possible Kent purchase, I could find very little-if any- information online regarding the 80's Kent BMX line.  So I reached out to Kent and to my surprise I was answered by Kent CEO, Arnold Kamler.  They sent me the below catalog portions and were more than helpful with my many questions.

So rather you had a Kent back in the day, come across one for sale and need some more info or just for good ol' nostalgia- I present the official Kent thread.  Share your builds, photos, stories, memories and questions. I will share the link with Arnold Kamler and Jeff Roesch at Kent who are interested to see any survivors or rebuilds.

Re: The Official KENT BMX Thread

Love it! Thanks for the pics. My actual 1st bmx was a gift from my late grandmother. It was a chrome w/black kent spoiler sold by Zayer discount dept. stores in MA. Had a grid pad set. Dolled it up but was stolen prompting me to save for a General Hustler. Many adventures on the Kent.

Great post, I think we all had an equivalent beginner bike.

Nice vintage catalog, never guessed they made 24's.

Re: The Official KENT BMX Thread

Im gonna love this thread.  Aside from 2 Kent Super Scooters I don't have pictures of currently, this is one of my favorite bikes in my collection and one I will never let go of.  OG dayglo pink Kent Rad Stylin.  I have the brakes as well just not pictured.

Is that really an 81? Seems like it would be an 87 by appearance, fonts, and discs.

It actually is a 1987. Did some more research on it. Thanks for bringing that to my attention! I deleted it and reposted with actual year.    https://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/kent/97875

Kent had some of the coolest names for their bikes- Rollin Thunder, Ambush and Rad Style.

The brown & yellow mud climber is cool. Looks like it's before it's time with all these retro klunker builds around now. Any idea of years of the catalog pics?

Not certain- but I know they represent most of the 80’s. I asked them for every BMX scan from the 80’s they could provide.  They (Kent) were very cool - they appreciate that people have an interest in their older stuff.
