Re: 2018 Haro Flatland Master frames!!!!

Ok, I'll give you as much info as I'm allowed on the 2019 Bashguard bikes. First, you'll see everything within a weeks time, they will be available as follows, 20.5 chrome, 20.75 red, 21 black. The guard is made out of nylon this time, it will do its job 100%, it will guard the sprocket, chain, stays and will also keep your tire from being destroyed like they did in the past. The bolts are no longer water bottle cage bolts and will not rip out like they did back in the day. The guard is completely different than what anyone is used to, and is personally quite amazing. There is a possibility of frames being sold separately in the future, just need to meet order minimums and would be available in chrome only, but would come with all three decal sets along with the ral code for the red. This is all the info that I will give at this time, and interbike is the big reveal. The last thing I will say is this bike has been in the works way longer than anyone realizes, its been well over four years now, not including all the ideas we thought about back when the originals were around, and its not a bike where John just sent an email and said make it, but moderninze it. Its way more than that. I hope everyone is as stoked on these as we are, they truly turned out perfect in my eyes.

Very cool.  The chrome only frame is a great idea, if it happens.  The automotive paint code would be great to have for the red.  Paint shops are everywhere.  Some people have to travel 2 hours to drop off at a powder coater.

Why do you feel that it will have such a massive bashguard? I could be wrong, but why would you need a bashguard on a modern bike that would protect anything larger than a 28t sprocket? Why would John set this up for giant, dated, obsolete gearing?
Again, I could be wrong - but I am doubtful.
I still think that these things will both be rad and that I won't want one.

Again, the bike, for me, will be too long in the front and too long in the rear. And if the bashguard was so large that it could protect a 43 or 44t sprocket - that would be the worst. But, again, I doubt that this will be the case.

If you clink on the link i just posted it will show you a big bashguard bigger than needed to protect just a 25 or 28.  I think i remember the 26 inch cruisers running a 39 team disc.  These may show up on the bash bike?  Also, i think he posted the same pic on instagram but im too lazy to log in.  Its on FB so anyone can see it.  What's surprising to me is none of the comments show anyone noticing its gearing, almost like its old news.  Its possible its blurry enough that im seeing things, i guess.

I think that you are leaping to conclusions that don't make sense. If we are looking at that red one in the picture, those seatstays are elevated and thus a few inches higher than you are used to seeing. That might give the illusion that the bashguard part is larger than it really is.

John made these to be functionally modern. Made to actually ride. Which means 25/9 or 28/9.

With short back ends, 43, 44, 38 (and anything over 30t) are hard to physically put on a modern bike with a fat tire - there isn't enough room for tubing.

And my god the weight it would add for nothing. AND there would be less clearance for the bashguard to clear obstacles if it was built that large.

If, for some reason, folks want to run Tuff Wheels on this modern, functional frame - they are likely going to have to either get the ones with cassette hubs or run 28/16 gearing.

Again, I could be wrong. But I doubt it. You may be seeing what you want to see rather than what is actually there. I might want them to come with coaster brake brackets, but it is unlikely to happen. Maybe if I squint real hard I can make one out?

But we'll see next week, right? smile

I was wrong. So very wrong. I will make note of the date and time.

Your logic was spot on and made all the sense in the world.  John and Eben surprised a lot of folks and it sure does fit the theme. Looks like the next few bashguard styles could follow suit.

!wow!

Nice build Moncho. I am digging those matching kneesaver bars and your choice of chrome wheels and Group 1 Cranks! How did you get a hold of turquoise keesavers or are they 80's bars you had painted?

Your also doing it justice by with your riding skills. Thanks for posting man!

Re: 2018 Haro Flatland Master frames!!!!

How are you guys dealing with the conical washer that comes with the Odyssey Evo II and the long allen bolt supplied by Haro for the brake arm post?
Also, did Haro start using those posts to level the cable angle/pull? seems like the low profile mounts make the cables pull at an angle that may cause the arms to pull up and "away" from the seat stays....any input will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Re: 2018 Haro Flatland Master frames!!!!

I bought longer flat head bolts on eBay.  They are a 6mm/m6x1.0 flat head socket cap screw. I don’t remember the length, but you’ll want it to be the same as the bolts Haro supplied with the frame.

Re: 2018 Haro Flatland Master frames!!!!

Hope to finish it tomorrow....have had all kinds of set backs, the kind that make you wanna grab the sledge hammer and put an end to it all!
But I think we'll make it lol
Cranks are temporary...until I get a special set of Profile cranks I ordered...a few months ago, stay tuned!
Thanks Revshag for the tip on the brake mount bolts, went to Ace Hardware and got them in 40mm, just like the ones that cam with the frame....

Thanks man, I appreciate it!
To me, it shows why Bob Haro had a great vision for design, the 88 model was unreal and 30 years later, the same concept still is unreal....I call it "timeless"

Re: 2018 Haro Flatland Master frames!!!!

I finally finished mine!
All I have left is a once over to make sure everything is tight and we can hit the courts.
After several changes, I decided to go back to the original design which, I believe, is timeless.
I'll have better pics tomorrow, out in the sun and I'll put it next to my survivor 88 to see the evolution over 30 years!
I hope Profile can deliver on the special cranks I ordered, that will be a major change in weight for this bike, until then, Group 1 cranks will do just fine.

Re: 2018 Haro Flatland Master frames!!!!

the revised geometry on yull model is best yet. couldn’t adjust to previous retro releases and ended up selling two different frames. finally got exactly what I hoped for Haro to release. stretching this a bit but wish a minimal offset fork would become available via Haro.

Thanks for the info man, I can't wait to ride it...it's my new rider after 3 years on a Deco Succubus Lite. They are similar in geometry and I love my Deco!
I may even make it to the One Love Jam, just in time to break it in and be the father of all posers lol
