I steer clear.  I can only imagine how much drama goes on in that group.  Who's Gary Thurston?!

My eyes hurt just reading that.

He's your cousin. There is a lot of drama and the misinformation provided on so many level is off the charts. It's sad that usership here has diminished and those pages are gaining in popularity. I know here you get legit information. Sadly it takes longer to get it if you even get a response at all

Re: Why EVERYONE needs to stay away from BMX Facebook pages

The best thing about the FB page is there are some screaming deals every once in a while if you're vigilant.  ...but other than that, I steer clear of any "what is this" conversation.  It blows my mind that ignorant people in this world seem to be the most confident.

Not just that but the people that will straight up blindly believe it without so much as a google to see if its correct.  99% of FB news is literal made up nonsense....

I got banned from a few pages for trying to point out incorrect information. I was ruining the positive vibe.

The problem is that for the ones that don't know they look to others for help. Unfortunately some guys are being ass holes and giving them misinformation. As far as there not being any deals here anymore I agree for the most part. Alot of it has to do with the fact that most people know what they have and want top dollar for it.

if you were not on the for sale page (swap meet) refreshing it every minute, you where missing out.

Man I would have gone mad!  Lol
Yeah it seems now days the "swap meet" section is dead on retail if not a little more in some cases.  If you need small bits and pieces then you might do ok

Re: Why EVERYONE needs to stay away from BMX Facebook pages

Prolly truer to say that this place has become the retail market. Unless one has the free time to surf yard sales and swap meets (and lots of knowledgeable flippers doing just that in larger cities) fire sale pricing is rare. This is certainly where I look for pricing. I figure out what the fair price is here, then add the vig if it also goes on ePay.

Re: Why EVERYONE needs to stay away from BMX Facebook pages

I can recall a time some years back when this site was a good place for "misinformation". And those that attempted to point out or correct the bad info got hammered for their effort. So it's all relative really, there has always been a large learning curve to this hobby and that fact always seems to show itself most at the more popular gathering places on the web. Right now those popular places are on facebook, which to me is a bummer because it's just making the hobby more fragmented and scattered. it seems much harder now to have fun in large groups. not like it used to be that is for sure.

Just spouting, don't mind me. lol

When I find a part i need for something I am putting together and I have no trust as to weather the part is 30 years old or 30 days old and I'm being charged a price on par with the real genuine and true item. I not only have to question the logic of people with your mind set but the state of the whole hobby in general. That is more to the point why so many people that knew better just walked away. Because they stopped being "OLD" kids bikes and are just kids bikes. Where in all that does the bullshit really lay?

The Canadian page is quite solid actually. No BS or Drama there. A couple repeat offenders disappeared over time. Over all it's been a great place to buy and sell and chat bikes. A lot of good friendships have been made there.
