That looks cool! Your first motorized bike?

Yep, first attempt.  Seemed like a fun project for me and the old man.

Thats a nice start! Im almost 3 years into the hobby and i can tell you a few things with certainty. One, dont underestimate quality braking components. Two, Monarch style forks look cool, but can be very unpredictable and scary. Three. Know the local and state laws regarding motorized bikes as good, or better that the police. Haha!

Edit- the chain that came with the kit is basically worthless. Buy a quality #41 chain from a farm and tractor supply store. Or order online.

Awesome intel, thanks Matt.  I did pick up a new chain.  Planed on disc brace up front on the Monarch forks but we'll have to see.  I'm sure I'll be picking your brain as this comes together (slowly).

I'll help if i can. Definitely take your time. My first one took months. Building the first one is a great experience! The first time it coughs, sputters, and  then pops, that's the best parts of the process!

Re: Motorized bikes thread! Who's into them?

Finally found the fork I've been trying to track down for several months! Ditched the drum brake front hub  for a disc set up.  A much nicer front wheel, caliper  and disc is on the horizon though.

Re: Motorized bikes thread! Who's into them?

Headlight project is almost done. Put a pretty bright rechargeable led headlight into an old battery type bullet headlight. Custom heavy gauge aluminum bracket. Still perfecting the bracket on the inside, then I'll install the new switch. Its currently functional, and it lights up the road pretty damn good!

so slow!  I'm building with the old man and he's 90 miles away so I haven't been able to get out there much.  probabaly shelve the project until spring as we've already had snow.

Pretty slow. Has a 5” head tube, having a hard time finding a 20” fork with a steerer that long. Might have to stretch one. Thanks for asking, a little more motivated now that I see someone keeping tabs.

Ok, you got the BBR Tuning. Nice quality and good fit? The adapter on my blue bike is no longer in production and I'll be needing one in the spring for a new project so i was just wondering.

No bearings then.  Yeah little tank up front. Couldn’t do the jelly bean thing they give you with the kit.

This is a cool thread.....

Looking for a small Yeti made Schwinn Homegrown MTB frame. Or other Yeti made frames. Pair of Spurs tickets to all home games for sale or trade for 80's BMX or nice Odyssey Pitbull brake.
If I owe you feedback let me know.

Looks like im getting another project started.  This 39 Colson was one of those frames that just grabbed my attention, and the price was a bargain!

I'll probably just put the progress pics in this thread.  Kinda shooting for an old school scrambler look with this bike. Motocross bars, knobby tires, stripped down bare bones bike.
Im using the monark fork that was on my first bike. Might be temporary, but its a well built fork just gathering dust. I have pretty much everything decided in my mind, just need the cash. The only thing that is still up in the air, is my seat. As it starts to come together, I'll figure out which seat it needs.

Re: Motorized bikes thread! Who's into them?

Well, i put the fork on the Colson and threw on a couple of random wheels just to get a look at how it might sit.  I actually knew before it was mocked that there was a problem, Im out of room! It was not an easy decision, but im going to take my motorized mountain bike apart and use the motor and some other things from it to build the Colson frame. Still some things to purchase, but it will be much cheaper than building a complete bike. This bike will remain together and running for a few months until the Colson is ready for the motor and such. Its a smooth ride and can handle a little off road, but its kinda busy looking. The colson will be much more stripped down and basic, but should do the same job and look way cooler!

Re: Motorized bikes thread! Who's into them?

Just got an important piece of the new set up. I racked my brain trying to decide on bars. Completely forgot about Al's Rapid Transit bars. Super nice quality! Made in the USA and knurled in the center for a bmx stem, unlike enduro or scrambler motorcycle bars. These bars have a similar shape to some of the old enduro, mx or scrambler bars, but they have more height than most of the motorcycle bars i was finding. Look up Al's on the museum if you're not familiar already. Nice stuff and fast shipping!http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/248/20200124_1809445e2b89b505.jpg
